But all those magpies, lorikeets, cockatoos, ravens, ibis and the rest are special. Against all the odds, they have survived the immense changes wrought by humans and have announced: "We belong here too!". This talk explores why some birds are so successful in the urban landscape and how we can enhance it for less resilient species. Darryl Jones is Professor Emeritus of ecology at Griffith University in Brisbane, where he has spent over 30 years investigating the interactions between people and birds. He has written over 200 scientific articles and 8 books, the latest being Curlews on Vulture Street (2022) and Getting to Know the Birds in Your Neighbourhood (2023). View
