(NEW!!!) Got a friend who has expressed interest in our NPA Milton activities? Here’s an opportunity to bring them to an event and share a social BBQ afterwards. This year we are trialling a walk and BBQ on the first Saturday of each quarter. The first of these will take place on Saturday March 1st.
The walk will introduce your friend to our wonderful program, and hopefully we can attract new members. Distances will be not too far, a bit like a Milton Branch Wednesday walk.

(NEW!!!) Bungonia Gorge has a vertical side in the section that we walk and is impressive in depth. With a drop of nearly 300 metres in a gorge which is 800 metres long and only 76 metres wide, it is the deepest gorge in Australia. The track is well defined to and from the canyon and is a steep descent/ascent. The canyon itself has a boulder field that is a challenge and a delight to find ways over, under or beside the boulders. The creek has pools as it exits the boulder field and makes its way to join the Shoalhaven River. Starting on the red track we descend into the canyon and then down stream through the boulder field. We will follow the creek to the white track at the confluence with the Shoalhaven River and then up to Mt Ayre lookout for views over the creek and river. Rejoin the red track and back to cars. Possible swim in creek before return on White Track. Boulder field and creek crossings. Location: Bungonia NP Map: Caoura 8928-3N Limit: 12.

Set against a great sheer cliff, a flat platform of rock seems to float out above the expansive Carne Creek Valley. This is the “Flying Carpet” and we will take a ride on it for magnificent views across the valley. Make sure you hold on! Time permitting, we will also have a look at some of the big caves and overhangs under the cliffs.
Group numbers are limited due to the short but tricky climb up onto the “Flying Carpet”, and I’m rating it a 5 simply due to this section. You’ll need to be comfortable using a long tape (provided). The rest of the walk is about a grade 4 being almost all off-track walk through gullies with open forest, big cliffs and at least one big cave. Steep rock scrambling with tape and off-track walking. (NEW!!!) Find out why this part of the Gardens of Stone must be better protected for the future generations.
Park some cars at around GR 427 121 on Glowworm Tunnel Road and drive the others to GR 425 094 on FT3. From here, walk to the lookouts at the end of the trail. Next, descend into Edmund Gully and find a way down into Carne Creek. Turn north under the cliff line and walk to the junction with Joseph Creek and then up that tributary to a short canyon-like exit 400 m upstream. Climb out on a spur at GR 422 102 and walk south to a lookout at the end. Now, turn back north and traverse above Carne Creek for as long as our time and interest allow, probably till around GR 417 117. Walk back to the parked cars and complete the shuffle. Partly exploratory. Scrambling and exposure. About 8 km. Location: Gardens of Stone SCA Map: Cullen Bullen 89313N Limit: 8.

(Nearly fully booked) The Mt Kaputar National Park is a walkers paradise with a variety of tracks taking the adventurous bushwalker to a wide range of peaks worth climbing including the incredible Yulludinada crater and Mt. Coryah to name a few. Included within the park are some amazing locations such as Waa Gorge and Sawn Rocks all worth a serious look! I plan to seek and out and enjoy as many of the stunning features of this wonderful national park with 4 full days of walking plus time on the Thursday for a short hike after we arrive and another short walk on the Tuesday morning before we drive home. At Dawsons Springs and Bark Hut are excellent campsites with full shower amenities as well as gas BBQs for cooking and shelters/seating at the campsites. For those who want more comfort there are 3 cabins for hire, accommodating up to 10 people.
The driving time from Sydney to the park is approximately 6 hours and 45 minutes. Location: mt kaputar Limit: 20.
