Swim | A trip that involves swimmingWalk | A bushwalk of any kind short or longBungonia Gorge has a vertical side in the section that we walk and is impressive in depth. With a drop of nearly 300 metres in a gorge which is 800 metres long and only 76 metres wide, it is the deepest gorge in Australia. The track is well defined to and from the canyon and is a steep descent/ascent. The canyon itself has a boulder field that is a challenge and a delight to find ways over, under or beside the boulders. The creek has pools as it exits the boulder field and makes its way to join the Shoalhaven River. Starting on the red track we descend into the canyon and then down stream through the boulder field. We will follow the creek to the white track at the confluence with the Shoalhaven River and then up to Mt Ayre lookout for views over the creek and river. Rejoin the red track and back to cars. Possible swim in creek before return on White Track. Hazards: Boulder field and creek crossings.
