The walk involves access through private property and a climb up through woodland, before a steep ridge with some tape assisted rock scrambling for good measure!

The August Zoom meeting will visit the Hay Plain and settle somewhere within the delightful Kalyarr National Park, the traditional Country of the Nari Nari People and also the childhood home of Branch member Valerie Atkinson. The presentation will include images of the sweeping plain, the vegetation along the Lachlan and the wildlife within it. It will also be an interactive session with Valerie Atkinson as we explore her times on Norwood and surrounding stations. Find out why this area must be better protected for future generations. Park at the bottom of Angus Place Trail and follow it till about GR 312 052. Descend into a gully to the south west and traverse the extremely dissected pagoda terrain, generally following the cliff line, for as long as the time allows. From the Visitors centre we will descend to Glenbrook gorge and follow the Gorge downstream, finding our way along river via rocky terraces, sand bars and several crossings of the creek. Then we ascend up to Portal Lookout which will involve some climbing of the ropes set up there already and, after a walk along the top fire trail, descend the stunning Tunnel View ridge back down to Glenbrook creek. Lastly we retrace our footsteps back up the track to the Visitors centre. Rock hopping, several crossings of Glenbrook creek and pulling yourself up the ropes onto Portal Lookout. Expect a variety of vegetation and landscapes a long the way plus some view points. It goes past or through rainforest, mangroves, the river and some street sections. It does have some steep sections and steps along the way. A great spot to get some exercise without having to go far.

LEADER: LINH QUACH We start from Circular Quay and walk around the Opera House to the Royal Botanical Gardens. If you are lucky, we will see the seal on the foreshore. Spring is a wonderful time to visit the Gardens when Rock orchids are in bloom. Paper daisies, tulips, and other flowers are also in bloom. The Calyx is alive with exhibition and colours. Visit the herb gardens and the ponds. At 11:30 am, we will join the Government House tour to see its spendour with modern and old world decorations. See the magnificent modern carpet recreation of the original from 200 years ago. The dining room is flooded with light and warmth from the sun. Learn about the architecture and the history from the tour guide. See two very Grand pianos. The ornate windows all have lovely views of the garden. The tour ends at the garden of the Government house. We will walk around the beautiful garden before heading back to Circular Quay via the sculptures and the footbridge. A 2-day pack walk. Numbers are strictly limited. Private property access is required. Day 1 - Park near Canobla Gap and ascend Mount Canobla on a razor blade spur. Continue to Mt Gundangaroo and camp near the trig. Water was found before in a nearby gully, however this is not guaranteed. Circumnavigate Thirlmere Lakes via Slades Road - Dry Lakes Road –
Western Lakeside Track – Slades Road – Western Ridge – Slades Road.
This is an opportunity to see all the lakes full of water after years of drought.
We will walk around all the lakes and climb a couple of ridges with off-track

This is a field trip to explore the wonders of the Hay Plain and Kalyarr National Park. There are options for camping on the banks of the Lachlan River and also accommodation options in the nearby town of Hay.
Daily field trips will include a time and place for meeting so that people with various accommodation preferences can be accommodated. Note that arranging transport and accommodation is the responsibility of the individual participant.
