How many times have you seen Mt Hay in the distance but you've never been up it. The top has trees, the view from there is not great but worth having a go.
Meet at Leura station.
Drivers required. Drive to the end of Mt Hay Road.
Walk to Butterbox Lookout. Great views here on a clear day.
Then walk up Mt Hay and beyond.
Return to cars and Leura station.

(Date Changed) Lion’s Head gives panoramic views over the Kedumba valley. The track follows the cliff edge for views on the way there. Starting from Tablelands road and walking on track to Lion’s Head, then down Lion’s pass aka Hidden pass to the bush below the cliff line. Off track walking to join old fire trail that goes towards Kedumba camp ground. Return via same route unless exceptional progress is made. (NEW!!!) This is only 3.4 km loop track – a lot of which is on a fire trail. There is a lovely swimming hole and waterfall at The Basin on the Georges River. However, reviews suggest that the track along the river is a bit overgrown and at times rough. There are steep steps on leaving the river. The overall elevation gain is 90m and the walk is classed as a moderate (grade 3) hike. We will meet at 9.30am at the end of Georges River Rd Kentlyn, where there is an ample car park. Bring your swimmers and morning tea/lunch. If time permits we may visit Freres Crossing after our return to the car park. Leaving the fire trail there are a couple of steep gullies to negotiate before joining an old fire trail and then a bush track leading to the escarpment. Wildflowers are prolific and the view is spectacular. Steep rough track, slippery creek crossing, fallen trees, unfenced cliff edges. NOTE: Sections of this track have become quite overgrown.
