Grade:4/6 | Length | 13km | 300m | Sydney Branch
Mark G. | |||||
When the heat of summer is upon us, where do you head? To a Blue Mountains canyon to cool off and revive body and soul! On this trip we will experience not 1 but 3 canyons with Du Faur Canyon being the main course. The equally spectacular, but much shorter October Creek being the entree, and the Joes Canyon the dessert for what promises to be a superb day swimming, paddling and savouring these amazingly beautiful locations. I can promise you an amazing aquatic time! You'll need a helmet, wetsuit and I recommend a flotation device such as a surfmat, and life jacket as there are some longish swims involved. Rock scrambling/off-track walking/swimming. Location: Blue Mountains NP Map: Mt Wilson Limit: 12. View |

Grade:4/6 | Length | 6km | 100m | Sydney Branch
Mark G. | |||||
Twister Canyon is, without a doubt, one of the most fun canyons you can do without needing to abseil as it has multiple pools in which to jump and swim or, in places, scramble down. It isn't very long and usually takes about 3 hours and then runs into Rocky Creek Canyon. I plan to do Rocky Creek just before the big swim and reverse back up the canyon, depending on water levels. Participants must have the following, helmet, wetsuit, PFD and waterproof pack or inner bag. Rock scrambling on slippery rocks. Location: Wollemi NP Map: Rock Hill 89312N Limit: 12. View |

8 Feb, Sat 8:00AM | Birrabang Canyon
Grade:4/6 | Length | 7km | Sydney Branch
Mark G. | |||||
One of my favourite fun and easy canyons to do is definitely Birrabang! There are no abseils and only a couple of very short swims under 15 metres, some of which you can avoid by climbing around. It has a few lovely cascades and as a bonus has some truly spectacular pagodas as you walk out via the exit track. Participants should bring a helmet and a wetsuit, as although there aren't many swims, the water you wade through is cold. Rock scrambling and short swims. Location: Blue Mountains National Park Map: Mt Wilson Limit: 20. View |

The Entrance Coast to Lake Scenic Walk is a 'string of pearls' walk, connecting pedestrians to attractions, landmarks and facilities around The Entrance, covering over 7.6km of Central Coast's beautiful area. The Basin near Palm Beach has the warmest water in Sydney for swimming and snorkeling. It's also flat surf. Bring snacks, drinks, sun protection and water gears. Optional walk to West Head Road and back. It is a steep but scenic walk and there is an aboriginal carving site.
Hazards associated with beach activities. Slippery sections. Map: Palm Beach Limit: 10. View |
22 Feb, Sat 8:00AM | Dumbano Tunnels and Suboir Canyon
Grade:3/6 | Length | 6km | 100m | Sydney Branch
Mark G. | |||||
On the vastness of the Newnes Plateau is a vast array of canyons and this is one of the easiest ones to access! There is no swimming, and in fact, you can do this walk into and through the Dumbano Tunnels and the Suboir Canyon without getting water over your ankles. What you'll encounter is a world of spectacular and quite often dark tunnels or dungeons as they have been called before, with very close canyon walls, stunning overhangs and relatively little thick bushbashing. This is seriously a grade 1 canyon in difficulty, but grade 5 in beauty! Rock scrambling and off-track. Location: Wollemi NP Map: Wollangambe 89312S Limit: 12. View |
