A classic walk with lots of variety and fabulous views. Starting at Wentworth Falls Station follow roads and paths to Conservation Hut. Descend and cross Lillians Bridge then ascend to skirt around the Fairmont Resort. Follow Sublime Point Road and locate good tracks to Gordon Falls, Leura Cascades and Leura Forest. Follow the Federal Pass to Furbers Steps and ascend to Katoomba Station. Lots of steps and ups and downs on this walk. Will alter exit point if Furbers steps are still closed. Park one car at GR 419 130 off Glowworm Tunnel Road and another car at GR 415 150. From the second car, take an old fire trail north west, then descend the Long Zig Zag Pass. Continue south east underneath the cliff line, visit the incredible Flying Carpet and then Koan Cave. Move generally south under the cliffs until the Koan Pass. Re-connect with the cars. Mystery Mountain dominates the skyline from the Newnes area and is a mountain certainly worth climbing! There is a rough track after crossing the Wolgan River that takes you to the base of the cliff line followed by an amazing cliffline traverse that goes for almost 1500 metres, south towards Zobels Point.
Then a climb up onto the plateau where there will be time to explore the photgraphic opportunites amongst the pagodas. After that a descent down a gully will take us onto the the Wolgan River Trail back to our cars. Rock scrambling and some off-track walking. (Updated Details) The 100km trail features the well-known Great North Walk and the Harbour to Hawkesbury Walking Track in the beautiful bushland of northern Sydney. Section 1 starts from Parsley Bay and ends at Cowan Station. This is a popular section of the Great North Walk, with scenery ranging from foreshore to ridge top lookouts. We will follow the Great North Walk from Hawksbury Station on to picturesque Jerusalem Bay, then on to Cowan Station This walk is a great one-way trip from station to station with numerous water views, including a circumnavigation of Brooklyn Dam whilst enjoying a wonderful diversity of flora along the way.
