Canyon | A trip through a canyon (a gully surrounded by tall cliffs).60 Best walks | This is one of the NPA's 60 best walks.Sunnyside Ridge - Number 8 Lookout - Wombat Canyon - Sonntag Retreat - Fern Gully Ridge - Fire trail No 8. A great introduction to canyons, no abseils, a beautiful little canyon, some scrambling, possible wet feet. Track, off-track with mild scrub, creek walking, minor scrambling. This is No 23 on the 60 Best Walks list. Limit: 10. Map: Cullen Bullen View

Two of the best climbs in the Blue Mountains IMHO, around 30%, each over 2km (and descents to weaken the strongest knees). Tremendous views, via Blue Gum Forest, river crossing - log bridge or wade. Circular walk from Middle Brook along the Cedar Trail, with a side trip to Mt Tinagroo on the summit of the Liverpool Range (1230 m). Steady climb through eucalypt forest, ancient grass trees, tree ferns, snow gums and snowgrass. An abundance of wildlife. Led by Frank Grennan and Annie Maguire.

Magnificent views and coastal scenery. Fast pace for fit and frequent walkers (short breaks), aiming to arrive in Bundeena in time for refreshments and the 4pm ferry to Cronulla. All on track, metal grid surfaces are slippery when wet, creek crossings.

Road, fire trail, track, some off track, scrub, creek crossing, minor scrambling, a good workout. Limit: 12. View

Paddle past sunken wrecks in Salt Pan Cove and historic houseboats in Pearl Bay, under Spit Bridge and onto the great beaches of Middle Harbour (weather dependant). Open, tidal, heavy traffic. PFDs compulsory. View

View Baiame Cave art site, ascend ridge to 3 Poles Lookout, and descend via the Old Bulga Road. The huge depiction of Baiame is one of the great indigenous art sites of Eastern Australia. Follow one of the original convict-built roads that connected Sydney to the Hunter River.

Possible side trip to the Blue Gum Forest. Cross the Grose River and ascend 390m to Du Faur Head. Continue along Lockleys Track with side trip to Lockleys Pylon to car park. Commencing from Kedumba Valley Road descend and cross Kedumba River. Steep ascent to Mt Solitary. Continue uphill to eventual descent of the Koorowall Knife-edge. Follow Ruined Castle Ridge Track with a steep ascent up the Golden Stairs to the finish line. A classic Blue Mountains walk with two big up and down sections.
