Talk | A talk or slide show presentation. The Colong Foundation, Blue Mountains Conservation Society and Lithgow Environment Group have developed a visitor plan called Destination Pagoda that proposes to significantly increase the number of visitors to Lithgow through the creation of new visitor opportunities in a state conservation area reserve in which underground mining is permissible. The values in the proposal can be protected and enjoyed by thousands through the provision of basic recreation facilities that enable families to get close to nature and then enjoy a nice lunch in Lithgow. We are holding a launch event to explain this report to the community on Monday night April 8th from 6pm, at the Lithgow Workies, would you like to come? We are taking bookings on the Colong Foundation website, just follow the destination pagoda prompts at www.colongwilderness.org.au.
Tom Zubrycki, Award winning documentary maker, will launch his new work called Gardens of Stone: Living landscape that tells the story of the Gardens of Stone campaign and how the future of this spectacular region hangs in the balance.
Guest speaker Ian Brown, adventurer, climber and respected park management consultant, will then outline the potential of the Gardens of Stone as a world-class tourism and conservation reserve. Swim the lagoon from a clean sandy beach or take a plunge in the ocean or nearby rock pool, visit an island in the middle of the lagoon we've never been to before, explore Deep Creek in all its glory, hear about the Royal Family's connection with Middle Creek, be close enough to photograph the over 100 Black Swans that have made the lagoon their home. Plus, find out why Narrabeen Lagoon was a centre of Aboriginal settlement, be amazed at the lagoon's pre-World War 2 German connection and tell us whether you like the idea of an “aquatic walkway” jutting out into the waterway. Start at 9am, finish round 3pm. Hire a quality kayak for just $98pp. No previous kayaking experience necessary, tuition given. Only 8 places remain. Grade easy.
