Stunning hike through pristine wilderness. Joint walk with SBW & The Bush Club. Wide river crossing at Yellow Pup Point; additional creek crossings. Some significant and steep climbs: approx 400m up Black Horse Ridge, 600m up Mt Strongleg, plus multiple "undulations" by comparison. Rough, rocky and unformed track in places.

Saturday afternoon 30th – NPA members are invited to attend a 1 hour presentation on the Upland Swamps of the Sydney Region by renowned local expert, author and NPA member Ann Young. A great chance to learn about what we all see at Maddens Plains each time we drive to or from Sydney. Sunday morning 1st – choice of walks with complimentary morning tea.
  1. Guided tree tour - Enjoy an easy guided walk to learn about the rainforest trees of the Illawarra Escarpment with local expert, author & NPA member, Leon Fuller followed by morning tea. 1km, Grade 1
  2. Mt Keira ascent - Mt Keira Scout Camp to Mt Keira summit and return via Dave Walsh and Mt Keira Ring Tracks. Moring tea along the way. 4km, Grade 3.
  3. Mt Keira Summit Park nature walk - Join for morning tea then take a stroll around the nature trail at the Summit Park. 1km, Grade 1.

Includes a crossing of Hat Hill Creek and a short section of track with some nice views over Hat Hill Creek. From the old airfield, now an off the leash dog area, descend to Boyds Beach on Popes Glen Creek. Out and back from here to view the Horseshoe Falls from the Pupit Hill Track. Back to Blackheath via Popes Glen. Creek crossings could be slippery. Some sections muddy. Loose and clayey surfaces encountered on steep sections.
