The walk then follows the escarpment past several view points and along a fence line across a couple of small creeks to Crystal Pool. The water leaves the pool to fall over the escarpment into the valley below. Return by the same route. Indistinct and easily lost track, rough track, fallen trees, slippery rocks and unfenced cliff edges.

Exit via Minotaur Lair Gully. The exact route will depend on how we go and may include Ariadne Thread. Partly exploratory. Scrambling and exposure.

We will access the Crown via a friendly property owner in the Capertee Valley, the shortest and easiest route. Interested parties might want to stay at the Capertee (Royal) hotel the night before. Rock scrambling and off-track walking. I'll take a safety tape for backup.

Walk | A bushwalk of any kind short or longA great walk at a comfortable pace with a mixture of historic remnants of the Old Great North Rd, and some beautiful views over the Hawkesbury River and other valleys. Most of this walk follows parts of the convict built road, and a number of information signs along the way give a good insight into the construction and history of the road, making the walk more interesting. Wildflowers and sandstone bushland along Finchs Line track. The last section of the walk, along Wisemans Ferry Rd, has some great views of the cliffs above. The historic Thomas James bridge, just before the end of the walk, is the oldest in-use bridge on mainland Australia. Next, walk around Woolpack Rock and climb the Watch Tower Spur to the west of it. Follow it north west all the way to about GR 332 204, then walk west to the escarpment and descend into Liberty Gully. Visit Liberty Chamber before proceeding to climb the Alcatraz. From here, use Alcatraz Pass to get back to the cars. Scrambling and exposure.
