Rogaine | A map and compass based navigation activity.Walk | A bushwalk of any kind short or longFast pace | A trip where the leaders will set a fast pace.Public Transport | There are public transport options to and from this activity.(NEW!!!) The epic LaneCoveRivergaine series has reached its sixth and final stage as we farewell the river at its mouth (sort of), the Heads of Sydney Harbour.  (The first LaneCoveRivergaine started at the river’s source in Pennant Hills in 2015). Rogaining involves teams of 2-5 persons navigating to checkpoints marked on a map. This 6-hour rogaine on Sunday 24 November is open to everyone.  We expect 400 entrants of all ages (6 to 80+) and abilities - from elite athletes to walkers and families, some with strollers.  You get to choose your own route and level of difficulty and how long you take, within the 6-hour time limit. The map encompasses the area from North Head to Manly and the Spit Bridge with spectacular vistas over the harbour and beaches.  You can even play a spot of croquet at the Manly Croquet Club. The Hash House (start & finish) will be at St Paul’s College on the edge of North Head.  At the conclusion of the event there will be an all-inclusive BBQ, provided by the world-renowned 1st North Sydney Scout Group, with its three-star chef preparing gourmet eats. And Paddy Pallin will again be providing gear for winners and lucky door prizes. You don't need anything special.  Comfortable jogging/ walking shoes and appropriate clothing are fine.  A compass isn’t essential but would be useful. Instruction is available for first timers.  Just form a team and register at https://nswrogaining.org/2024-socialgaine/ Note there is a cost to participate in this event, hosted by NSW Rogaining. rough ground, steep sections

Why would you want to do this you may well ask! Well, for starter,s you'll see an incredible display of glowworms that make the Glowworm Tunnel pale into insignificance. If lucky, you may also see glider possums, frogs, crayfish, bats and other denizens of the night. The one thing you won't see is the usual crowds that frequent the Grand Canyon in the daytime. Last time I did this walk we only encountered a couple of people. Bring a torch.

The Alpine flowers should be at their peak at this time of year, and the fresh air is most invigorating! Also, there is a new major track to check out and much, much more. As in previous years, we will stay at Charlottes Pass in a very comfortable abode, The Southern Alps ski lodge, and from this centrally located residence, we will venture out on day walks. This lodge is totally DIY and rooms are twin-share with larger rooms accommodating up to 4 people. There are no single rooms and anyone coming who is single should be prepared to share a room with at least 1 other member. Of course I'll arrange rooms with a woman sharing with another woman and visa versa! Needless to say, this trip is always my most popular of the year, so if interested, don't delay.
