Enjoy this cooler walk with its spectacular views of Sydney Harbour. We will walk from Watsons Bay to Camp Cove to view the landing place of Captain Phillip on 21 January 1788, then, if time, to South Head before setting off to Nielson Park. Please note that the beach and kiosk there are closed due to the construction work. We then take the stunning Hermitage Foreshore track to Rose Bay, where you can catch a bus or ferry home. (Fully Booked) Follow the Carrington Falls rim track to the top of Stevo's Track & return. A short drive to access Nellies Glen Carpark then walk to Missingham Lookout. After the walk there will be an opportunity to swim at Nellies Glen. As this walk has two parts walkers seeking a shorter walk can opt to do just the first leg.

Starting the walk via the Vale lookout and great views over the lower Grose River, then the Vale of Avoca trail to the Grose River. Follow the river upstream to swimming pools. The Paterson Hill off-track section begins from here, a steep climb to Paterson hill from the creek confluence. Look for log book near cairn. Enjoy view and return down spur to Cabbage Tree Creek, then follow creek to Grose River. Anyone wanting an easier walk can remain at the Grose River swimming pools and enjoy a swim. Return via The Wire Track, a short but steeper track that joins the fire trail to the parked cars. Hazards include unfenced cliff edges, slipery rocks, deep water swimming holes. This paddle will explore the Georges River & tributary creeks as they pass through the Georges River NP. From Illawong we head upstream passing under the Alfords Pt Bridge enjoying the NP bordering both banks of the river. We will break for lunch at one of the numerous beaches beside the Park’s picnic areas, before returning along the same course. En route we will have the chance to explore Mill Ck and a section of Salt Pan Ck. Participants to provide their own craft & are required to wear a correctly fitted PFD.

The next instalment of our Wollangambe exploration. Limited numbers. Park one car at GR 652 942 near Tessellate Hill access track and another one on Danes Way, Mount Irvine. Walk/swim/boulder/scramble down the gorge to the planned exit point at GR 646 967 (new to the leader). Climb towards Tessellate Hill, visit the Tessellated Pavements and the area around it, then walk back to the vehicles. Bring helmet (mandatory) and dry bags. Wet suit strongly recommended. (Updated Details) We start the walk at Darvall Park, Denistone. The walk will continue at Terrys Creek and then at Browns Waterhole to join the Great North Walk; finish at Lady Game Drive, Lane Cove NP. The walk will follow the creeks, Lane Cove River and will pass through remnants of shale blue gum forest. At Darvall Park the circumference of a massive blue gum is 6.5m. There are also turpentines & blackbutts. This valuable bush land provides a corridor for wildlife such as water dragons & rosellas. Hopefully, Anthony, a NPA member & volunteer bush worker, will join & enlighten us with his knowledge of Darvall Park. Slippery when wet. This is a great coastal walk to escape the heat. There are great views en route and the invitation to have a surf at Bondi at the conclusion of the walk. You can purchase your lunch at Bondi, too. Park at GR 792 887 on Bells Line of Road, climb onto the ridge to the north and continue to GR 800 906, where the ridge splits. Take the left branch and find a way down via this narrow spur to Wheeny Creek at around GR 798 921. Walk to Wheeny Gap, stop for a swim. Find a way up to the east of Wheeny Gap – there are currently two options that can be investigated. Both these options lead back to the ridge, from where we will walk to the cars. (Fully Booked) Leader: Allan Porter and Philip Wright. The most spectacular display of glow worms in Blue Mountains is found at Burralow Creek . It is Australia’s answer to New Zealand’s Waitomo Caves. The rock walls around Bulcamatta Falls are inhabited by thousands upon thousands of glow worms. It’s like standing in the middle of a galaxy surrounded by billions of stars. Starting from Burralow Creek campground, we walk once during the day so as to familiarise with the route in day light. Then we have a break to set up camp or to check in at accommodation, then have dinner before we walk in the dark to see the Glowworms. Allan is planning to camp. Philip is planning to stay at Archibald Hotel at Kurrajong. Camp ground is available at Burralow Creek. Booking is walker’s own responsibility. You must commit to both day and evening walks before RSVP. Bright headlamp, preferably with red light, with spare batteries is essential for your safety. If you arrive with no headlamp, you will be turned back. Next day, we will do some other hikes, maybe Mount Tomah and Mount Banks before heading home, depending on weather.... how much rain and state of trail.. Crossing creek. Limit: 9. View |
