Park at Wolgan Road and go through Minotaur Lair to Point Sol and climb a high point at GR 422 232. Next, head north along the spur, then turn west and find a way down to the next level towards west at about GR 4200 2356. The idea is to explore the next 400 m of pagodas and slots, until 4160 E. Well one of the classic walks is back on the table and there's no better time to do this challenging trip than in the cooler months when the air is fresh and clear and the views seem to last forever! I'm itching to see what the Grose Valley looks like at Blue Gum forest as well as in what condition, these 2 famous connecting tracks are in, so come and join me for what should be a wonderful walk. Park the vehicles at around GR 306 175 on the branch road off the Bicentennial National Trail. Follow the Great Dividing Range north to Gordian Knot and then to Witches Watch, a spectacular lookout above Hecates Cauldron. From here, descend into the Cauldron and explore it underneath the cliff lines and also above, amidst “the bubbles”. Visit the Tower of Hope and other attractions. Descend into the headwaters of Baal Bone Creek, cross the valley and climb up through Tara Slot onto Tara Point. More amazing views. From here, move up to the ridge and re-connect with the vehicles. If you think of Manly only as a beach, come along and change your mind. This walk climbs three hills around Manly, mainly on paths and pavements. Starting from the ferry wharf it first leads to Fairlight Beach then crosses the ridge and heads to Manly Lagoon. From the Lagoon it goes up the hill towards Freshwater, before turning back down to the Queenscliff rock pool. A long flat stretch along Queenscliff, Manly and Steyne beaches leads to the Fairy Bower rock pool. From there it climbs over the ridge to the old St Patricks College, and then to Little Manly beach before returning down to Manly Wharf. Hazards:hills and steps Location: Manly Map: Manly Limit: 14. Joint leader Sheila Walker. From Leura Station drive to Lockley Pylon trackhead, leave some cars and then drive back along Mt Hay Rd to the trackhead of the Fortress Ridge Trail to start the walk. Walk past Fortress Rock Lookout, the Cave and Waterfall to the Fortress Ridge Lookout, turn around, on the way back turn into Fortress Canyon Entry Track, cross Fortress Creek, then along an indistinct track to the Lockleys Pylon Track on to Lockleys Pylon, and then walk back to Lockley Pylon trackhead. Please contact leader via email to register, stating whether travelling by car as we need to drive to start of the walk and back. A 3-day pack walk. Limited numbers.
Day 1: Park at Benjang Gap, GR 300 930. Walk to Lee Creek and then upstream to GR 328 904. Take water for the day (or carry from home). Climb to Lost Chord Crater, continue to Lost Chord Saddle, then climb south-west on Tal Tal Ridge to about GR 339 890. Descend into a tributary of Lee Creek at about GR 330 884. Take water for high camp and next morning, climb westwards and camp at around GR 324 885. If time permits, explore high cliffs to the south-east (we may even camp there). About 12 km.
Day 2: Spend the morning exploring Lee Castle immediately to the north-west, then descend into Lee Creek, take water for the high camp and the next day and climb to Labyrinth Saddle (eastern end) at GR 315 903. Then climb Labyrinth Peak, GR 311 901, to camp. About 6 km.
Day 3: Return to the Labyrinth Saddle. Explore around to the north and north-east. If possible, descend into a tributary of Lee Creek at around GR 316 909; otherwise return to the saddle and use a known descent route to the north. Walk back to the cars. About 8 km.
