(Fully Booked - Ask leader about waiting list) Ropes practise day at Mount York. This day is aimed for those who have abseiled before and have their own equipment. It will be compulsory to have a harness, helmet, safety tether, descending device for single rope. We will be practising abseiling on small pitches, gradually moving up in difficulty to an overhang. There will be breaks where we will also practise knots that are commonly used when canyoning. There will be a chance to use prussiks to climb back up a pitch and to also use mechanical ascenders. A fee of $5.00 each will be collected to cover wear and tear on ropes supplied by members. There will a number of safety briefings spread throughout the day and we will have a chance to practise tying off part way through an abseil and then untying and recommencing the abseil. We will practise double fishermans, tape knot, stone knot and munter hitch. Short lengths of knot practise rope and tape will be provided. Abseiling is a dangerous activity that could result in death or serious injury. All attendees must sign NPA's Risk Waiver Form prior to commencing the activity. All abseils are adjacent a cliff, and any member within two body lengths of the cliff edge must be attached to a safety tether. Location: Blue Mountains National Park Map: Hartley 89304N Limit: 12.
