Park at Wolgan Road and go through Minotaur Lair to Point Sol. Continue east, then north, exploring high pagodas around the cliff edge. Then walk west to the central spine and have a look at the blind slot at GR 422 233. Head along the spine of the ridge and find a way down to the next level towards west at about GR 420 236. The idea is to explore the next 250 m of pagodas and slots, until 4170 E. Return either via Ariadne Thread or down to Minotaur Lair if there is no time. Partly exploratory. Scrambling and exposure. This magnificent walk is focusing on the Harbour itself – the expanse of water, the bridges, islands, urban bushland and city skyline. The route winds along parts of the foreshore, into bays and on to headlands, through bush, along historic streets and over grand bridges. (Postponed) Honey gatherers trek eastern Nepal near spectacular Annapurna ranges to view ancient dying tradition of harvesting honeycomb of the giant black bee, the largest bee on our planet, nestled on cliff walls. 15 day trip in November, moderate grade, homestay and tents. Leader will provide itinerary on inquiry. Cultural sensitivity a major prerequisite and a good level of fitness. We will visit World heritage sites in Kathmandu and then fly to Bhutan for a cultural tour 6 days, and climb up to Tigers Nest Monastery... Travelling by a fast train and then a bus, we reach the Princess Marina Track to the beautiful Kellys Falls, set in bushland that is noticeably different to that around Sydney or the Blue Mountains. From there we walk around and see some of the wonderful views over the coast from Stanwell Tops before descending 150 metres to Stanwell Park Station for the journey home. A 3-day pack or base camp walk.
This walk is full.
Private property access permission has been arranged.
Day 1: Drive to the locked gate at GR 315 765. Take all our gear from the cars and walk to the cave where we will camp for two nights. With a day pack, climb Merrits Gap, GR 326 791, and then Murder Mountain, GR 330 792. Descend north east towards Growee River, if time allows. Return back to the base. About 6 km, depending on the terrain.
Day 2: From our camp site, walk west and use Spring Log Pass to climb Spring Log Ridge. Follow it north as far the time allows, then descend east into Paradise Gully or Growee River and return to camp. Depending on the terrain, could be about 12 km.
Day 3: Break camp, take our gear and walk 1.5 km back on Growee Trail to about GR 320 773. Leave our gear and take the water for the day. Walk west on a rough trail for about 500 m, then, at about GR 315 775, climb and explore the ridge running north, north west as far as GR 302 797. From here, descend into a canyon like gully to the north east and attempt to negotiate it all the way back south east towards the start of the walk, adjusting for the terrain as necessary. Depending on the terrain, could be about 10 km.
