20 Jul, Sat 7:30AM | Cape Pinnacle and Rockflower Ridge
Grade:4/6 | Length | 10km | 400m | Sydney Branch
Mark G. | |||||
Cape Pinnacle juts out high above the Wolgan Valley and is truly spectacular from any angle. But this fabulous feature of the Gardens of Stone is only part of the story, as getting there involves walking along a ridge of stunning pagodas, which beg to be climbed. This is a location few people go to, so come along and discover what you're missing out on! Rock scrambling and off-track walking. Location: Gardens of Stone NP Map: Cullen Bullen 89313N Limit: 12. 20 Jul, Sat 8:51AM | Magdala Creek to Sassafras Gully Rd
Grade:3/6 | Length | 13km | 420m | Sydney Branch
Allan P. | |||||
Urban noise disappears as we follow Magdala Creek 4km down to Glenbrook Creek. Here we find tall trees, and patches of rainforest in the deep gullies. As always, there is a climb out of the valley. We return to Springwood Station via Sassafras Gully Rd after a little sidetrip to see the stone cross. No major creek crossings, but there are a number of short shallow ones. We shouldn't have to take our shoes off. Wet rocks may be slippery near creeks. Sand on rocks is also slippery. Location: Springwood Map: Springwood Limit: 12. View |

(Fully Booked - Ask leader about waiting list) Point Cameron is a great destination, but the journey there is quite astonishing. This is a long, at times challenging walk through some of the best scenery the Gardens of Stone has to offer. First we must trudge through a kilometre or two of thick scrub, but our payoff is an extended cliff and pagoda top walk high above the eastern side of the Capertee Valley. On our way, we will see Jamison Pass, the Plain of Shards, Ngamperi Rock (the original Nipple Rock) and the Pondage Canyon. Time permitting, we can also drop in on Stargate Tunnel on our return. Off-track. Location: Gardens of Stone NP Map: Ben Bullen 89314S Limit: 8. View |

27 Jul, Sat 7:30AM | Clifflines to the east of the Bicentennial Trail
Grade:5/6 | Length | 7km | 300m | Sydney Branch
Mark G. | |||||
There is an impressive ridge line that parallels the Bicentennial Trail between the Cape Horn ft and the Moffitts ft which I've admired on many occasions whilst walking along the BT. I've always thought about exploring this incredible looking ridge, and now's the time! This is an exploratory walk but you can expect to encounter the usual suspects, such as many pagodas, numerous slots, overhangs and caves and any of the other geological formations you would see within the Gardens of Stone National Park. If you are the adventurous type then this walk should appeal to you. Rock scrambling and off-track. Location: Gardens of Stone SCA Map: cullen bullen and Ben Bullen 89314S Limit: 12. View |

27 Jul, Sat 10:00AM | Hidden Gem and Coal Waste in Royal NP
Grade:4/6 | Southern Sydney Branch
14608 | |||||
Hosted by Sutherland Shire Environment Centre.
Walks will be in the RNP near the headwaters of the Hacking River which drains off the Illawarra escarpment.
The infamous Peabody Metropolitan Colliery is located further up Camp Gully Creek. The mine has illegally discharged coal waste material into these waterways on numerous occasions in recent years. If you’re curious about the ongoing impacts on the ecosystem downstream, this is a good opportunity to see the evidence for yourself.
Registration essential. Creek crossings. Wet feet. Location: Royal NP View |
