It's a picturesque section of the larger walk which will cover 570 km, linking the river's mouth at Broken Bay to its headwaters at Lake Bathurst, south of Goulburn. Council, with the NSW government, has been extending the path along the river banks as it passes through Emu Plains. In future, the walk will be extended towards Penrith Lakes and then on to Windsor, Wisemans Ferry and Berowra.

(Fully Booked) Gibbergunyah Nature Reserve is between Bowral and Mittagong. The walk takes in views of Mt Gibraltar (Highest point between Sydney and Canberra), Ninety Acre Hill Lookout and a track which winds through a beautiful fern gully. The track is sometimes overgrown and difficult to locate.

From Apple Tree Bay follow track along Cowan Creek and then main track back to Mt Kuring-gai. Take track to Berowa Creek through Lyrebird Gully and follow Berowra Creek track to Berowa Station.
The complete walk is long and suitable for experienced walkers. The first part that returns to Mt Kuring-gai could be suitable for walkers looking for a short walk but with challenging sections. Options for exit from walk at Mt Kuring-gai.
