Kayaking Port Davey/Bathurst Harbour |
Branch |
jcrocker |
Expressions of interest are sought for a kayaking trip of about a week's duration in Port Davey/Bathurst Harbour in SW Tasmania for February or March 2020.
The plan would be to fly from Hobart to Melaleuca, and a folding kayak, suitable for air transport, would be an advantage. It is possible to take a conventional kayak into Port Davey on a charter boat, but the trip around the southern capes of Tasmania is recommended only for those with good sea legs. A number of shops in Australia sell folding kayaks, and hire arrangements may be possible.
Once there, the plan would be to explore as much of the area as the weather conditions permit. February and March are the least windy months, but very strong winds may occur at any time. However, the area has many sheltered inlets and it should usually be possible to find some protected water to paddle.

This is a new walk that takes in aspects of the Tahmoor Gorge and Mermaids Pool Lookouts. It is a relatively flat walk only 1 shortish climb. The walk will explore some of the old loggers track that runs through the centre of this reserve. As this is a shortish walk there will probably be time for a swim at Seethru Pools. Unfenced cliffs.
