Meet at Canterbury station and walk via the Cooks River path to Tempe and back to Hurlstone Park. See how the hard work of local community organisations and local councils is bringing this once heavily polluted waterway back to life. Walk is all on paved paths. Hidden gem: Reid Oval Circuit via Ferndale, Stringybark Creek and Fairyland. This beautiful walk loops around a section of the Lane Cove River. Starting at Fullers Bridge, the walk follows the Great North walk through the historic site of Fairylands to Epping road before crossing the Lane Cove river and heading up the other bank of the river, passing through a variety of environments including a Golf Course. The walk then returns to Fullers Bridge. It's best to have coffee at Chatswood. The cafe at the park delivers a slow service. If you wish to have coffee at the park, take the half hour earlier bus. Commence with a short steep climb from the station followed with a long gradual descent on a variety of un-named tracks paralleling the Burgh Track. Cross the Hacking River and ascend on the Burgh Track to Garawarra Farm. Follow the cliff track and descend the Lilyvale Track. Locate and follow the Karingal and Red Cedar Tracks to again cross the Hacking River. Ascend a steep, short off-track section and follow a variety of tracks back to the station. Relaxed pace. Today we walk from Otford to Garie Beach. Always wanted to do the Coast Track but 28 km and 900 m elevation in one day is not your cup of tea? This is your chance to do it in 3 sections with public transport option. Otford to Garie Beach. Catch the train to Otford station, walk to Garie Beach Catch the shuttle to Sutherland at end of walk. Park at GR 727 932 on Mountain Lagoon Road. Walk north along Nirvana Ridge on an old fire trail, then off-track to Nirvana Caves. Next, traverse underneath the cliff line to the south-west, then south, looking for more caves. The exit point back to Nirvana Ridge will depend on available time. Park some cars at the end of the walk, drive back along Mt Hay Rd and start at the corner of Mt Hay Road and Fortress Ridge Trail, walk past Fortress Rock Lookout, the Cave and Waterfall to the Fortress Ridge Lookout, turn around, on the way back turn into Fortress Canyon Entry Track, cross Fortress Creek, then along an indistinct track to the Lockleys Pylon Track on to Lockleys Pylon, and then walk back to Mt Hay Road. Mount York was the point where Blaxland, Lawson and Wentworth viewed the Hartley Valley and the ‘west’ for the first time during their successful crossing of the Blue Mountains in 1813. From Heathcote Station follow paths and tracks to the Pipeline Track. Continue along the Pipeline crossing Heathcote Rd to find a steep track descending to the Woronora River. Follow a faint track along the river and ascend to the upper escarpment. Continue along cliff edge with good views of the river. Descend the Pass of Sabugal, cross the river and continue along the Pipeline. Follow various trails and tracks to Sutherland Station. Relaxed pace. Lots of ups and downs. Different lunch options available. From Meadowbank station proceed via Meadowbank Park, Parramatta Valley River Walk to Melrose Park and Ermington. We pass Casuarinas and Mangroves and George Kendall Riverside Park, and continue to Silverwater. Crossing Parramatta River, we continue on the River Walk via Wilson Park, Blaxland Riverside Park, Newington Armory and Parklands and Waterbird sanctuary. Passing Olympic Park ferry wharf, we cross the new bridge into Rhodes and finish at the station. Energetic walkers can continue and explore Bicentennial Park and Olympic Park. Limit: 18. View |

This will be a 4 day full pack walk far from the maddening crowds of Easter to an area of wild rugged beauty full of complex ridge systems, a multitude of pagodas, superlative views and comfortable campsites with the odd camp cave thrown in. Gaze at the stars at night and warm yourselves around the campfire and enjoy the splendid isolation of this rarely visited area not all that far from Sydney's doorstep.
