We will walk to Jibbon Head and visit the aboriginal engravings on the way. Then walk along the Jibbon Head 4WD track, as it gently climbs 40 metres up sandhills to the junction with the coastal track. Afterwards we follow it to the Balconies and beyond, before returning to the ferry at Bundeena. Spectacular coastal views and coastal heath bushland. Booking essential, giving your mobile, emergency contact and NPA numbers, please. It could be slippery and possibly slushy in places. Walking on sand does require more effort.

Move south east and out towards Carne Creek, then climb out on a tributary and visit Cosmic Cave. Exit via Split Rock Point and Pass. Re-connect with the cars. About 8k. Scrambling and exposure.

Walk north west and descend Long Ridge Knife-edge to Tootie Arch and Sombrero Hat Cave, and then to the Middle Creek junction. Continue up Middle Creek for about a kilometre, then walk up a saddle to the south and descend back into Tootie Creek. From here, head up south west to visit Long Wall and finally back to the vehicles. About 7 km. Scrambling and exposure. Partly exploratory.

The second crossing of the Lane Cove River be Delhi Road over Fullers Bridge. We will continue a short distance to meet up with the Great North Walk again. This year, the weekend will be dedicated to the memory of our good friend Jim Romanowski. After last year’s weekend, Jim twice asked to make it an annual event, so here it is. Drive to Newnes on Friday afternoon, share accommodation in the comfy and fully equipped Newnes cabins, or stay in the five-star camping ground. Friday night, the famous ukes will be back for a sing-along out the front of the pub. Saturday, a range of walks will be offered with various grades and leaders, the Glowworm Tunnel with a small canyon will be one. Saturday night includes surprise entertainment on the grassed area outside the pub including a toast to Jim. Sunday morning sleep-in then walk to the top of Mystery Mountain for brunch, great views and pagoda exploring. For those interested, a walk around the ruins on Sunday afternoon is available. Continue for about 800 m, then turn south and traverse under cliffs till GR 717 952. Continue up the gully for a short distance, then traverse above the cliffs to the first gully to the east. From here, walk back to the trail, visiting Dog Rock along the way. About 6 km. Scrambling and exposure. Mostly exploratory.

Today’s walk is a 7 km (14 km return) walk exploring one of the best remaining examples of the once extensive Cumberland Plain Woodland.
