I will be leading a whale spotting walk to Potter Point, Kurnell this coming Friday. Meeting at the Potter Point Car park (go to end of Joseph Banks Drive and turn right onto smaller entrance road right at the end… It has NPWS signs along it). We may walk about a km north of Potter Point towards the light house. Ground is slightly uneven in places and hazardous cliff edges mean you need to stay back from edge at least 3 meters. Visit an aboriginal site and the historic saw mill, and a few rocky vantage points, which offered spectacular views of the valley. The track to the creek is steep and involves some rock scrambling but it is adorned with wild flowers of various colours, overhangs and caves. Unfortunately this walk involves 4 km of street walking. Walk from Hornsby Railway Station to the Great North Walk (GNW) track via the Bluegum Walk. In this area are old sandstone steps built during the 1930's depression. At the GNW track we will head in a southerly direction to The Jungo Rest Area. At the Jungo Rest area, we will veer to our left following the Zig Zag Creek until we come to a bridge across the creek. (at this point time permitting we will walk up to an old quarry.) The GNW track then goes to our right along a fire trail for a very short distance before we turn left along the last section of bush track as we enter suburbia. Arrives Stanwell Park station at 7.32
we start on the Wodi Wodi track ascending through the rainforest, crossing gorgeous creeks before reaching the Forest Track. Then up onto the spectacular Illawarra Escarpment for a superb scenic journey past too many lookouts to name. We will keep going all the way to Sublime Point for a well-earned lunch break and perhaps coffee and the strategically placed cafe there!
