The rugged and beautiful Gardens of Stone can be an intimidating place for a first-time visitor. Find out about easier access points and routes that you can use to discover this magical land. After his talk, Yuri will lead a short walk to the part of the Gardens of Stone adjacent to Lithgow (Dobbs Drift). You will be able to view, photograph and learn about the stunning pagoda formations that make this area unique. Numbers are strictly limited, so bookings are essential. On this trip we will follow Nobles Canyon down past its 2 constrictions to the cliff lines above Carne Creek then explore the cliff lines south of that creek before crossing over a pagoda laden ridge back to the main track. Rock scrambling and off-track.

There is a steep climb up the ridge on a fire trail which we follow back to the start. You can come by car or public transport and we are meeting mid morning. Booking essential. Rough track surfaces and slippery sections.

From the first car, walk north along a spur, then down into Psychedelic Ravine. Follow it downstream, making detours to see some interesting sites, including Chain of Ponds on one of the tributaries. Exit at GR 745 955, climb the ridge and walk back to the road on the old timber trail. Partly exploratory. About 8 km. Scrambling and exposure.

There’s been plenty of media reports about the plans to (over)develop this park so this walk will provide an opportunity to have a look around and better understand what the issues are. NPA are advocating for the area to become Regional Park under the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Act and therefore be managed by NPWS. Limit: 16. View
