9 Dec, Sun Beehive Fort Tour
Branch
General Community Event
Walk | A bushwalk of any kind short or longNPWS is conducting a series of guided tours of this historic fortification in Sydney Harbour National Park. We'll explore the rarely opened Beehive Casemate as part of this tour at Middle Head, near Mosman. The Beehive Casement battery was built in 1872 as part of the outer line of defence for Sydney Harbour. Normally all you'll see of the battery are three 3.7m x 2.1m-high openings in a cliff face. On this tour you'll go beneath the cliffs of Obelisk Bay, Sydney Harbour to view the inside of the fortification. You'll also gain an insight into what the soldiers did for entertainment during World War I. It's a good idea to wear sturdy walking shoes, and bring sunscreen, a hat, snacks, drinking water and a torch.

9 Dec, Sun Save Kosci: Charlotte Pass to summit and return (unless we walked it yesterday)
Length 19km Branch
General Community Event
Accommodation | An activity that involves an overnight stay, using hard-roofed accommodation such as a cabin, hut or hotel.Walk | A bushwalk of any kind short or longSave Kosci walk: day 37. Contacts on the morning: try 0473 919 441 or 0409 764 785 or 0488 071 203. Suggest you persist till you hear a human voice – unfortunately text messages and left-messages may get missed in the rush. The main group of walkers will head up the closed road from Charlotte Pass to the summit, 19 km return. Small groups will be converging on the summit from other directions – so far we know of two groups walking in from Victoria, one along the Main Range, one from Guthega and one up Hannels Spur. Walkers seeking an easier day can walk from Thredbo Top Station. The several lines of yellow-vested walkers converging on the summit at lunch time will make a great shot from the air, for which Save Kosci is hiring a helicopter. On the summit, please stay on tracks and rocky ground to be kind to the vegetation. Impeccable courtesy to regular tourists please, the media will be watching. After the walk, return to your lodge or drive home (or keep walking, if you are doing the AAWT!) Parking: Please park in Charlotte Pass village and arrange own car shuffles or walk up to Charlotte Pass turning circle (i.e. leave some space near Charlotte Pass for regular tourists). Three Save Kosci support drivers will be assisting with shuffling walkers to the start. Start: Turning circle at Charlotte Pass i.e. at locked gate on Kosciuszko Road. Please arrive between 7:30 and 8:15am for an 8:30am start. Collect yellow vests and sign in. Re-group at Rawsons Pass 11:15 am to 11:45am, rather than head on up at your own pace (better for photos). Arrive summit 12:15 to 12:30pm. Lunch on summit. Wave at helicopter. Not planning any speeches. Return at own pace, aim to be back at trail head by 4pm. Sign out and optionally return yellow vests. Accommodation: Own arrangements. Transport to start and at end of day: Own arrangements. For more info and to register go to https://savekosci.org/ View
