NPWS is conducting a series of guided tours of this historic fortification in Sydney Harbour National Park. We'll explore the rarely opened Beehive Casemate as part of this tour at Middle Head, near Mosman.
The Beehive Casement battery was built in 1872 as part of the outer line of defence for Sydney Harbour. Normally all you'll see of the battery are three 3.7m x 2.1m-high openings in a cliff face. On this tour you'll go beneath the cliffs of Obelisk Bay, Sydney Harbour to view the inside of the fortification. You'll also gain an insight into what the soldiers did for entertainment during World War I. Hazards: It's a good idea to wear sturdy walking shoes, and bring sunscreen, a hat, snacks, drinking water and a torch. Location: Sydney Harbour National Park T: From: 9 Dec 2018 |
