Starting at the Huntley's Point Ferry the walk meanders around the Point to reach Tarban Creek. It then follows the creek upstream to Gladesville before crossing the ridge to the Parramatta River where it returns past historic Bedlam Point and via the old Gladesville Hospital to the Huntley's Point Ferry. From Thornleigh to Hornsby. Starting at Thornleigh Station we walk through suburban streets for a short while before diving into the bush at the southern end of Berowra Valley Regional Park. Soon after visiting the site of the historic Zig Zag railway we start wandering through the Berowra Creek Valley, passing a few cascading creeks. The track undulates along the side of the valley visiting a range of environments from moist fern forest to the drier grass tree and eucalypt forests of the ridge. There is a short side trip to visit the Westleigh engravings and a chance to pop down to fishponds, before climbing up the depression era stone steps to Hornsby Station. Steep and slippery sections. This walk starts from suburban Northbridge with a view over the magnificent Long Gully Bridge. We reach the bridge via steep bush tracks and steps. It follows roads skirting the valley to Folly Point then descends to Primrose Park before climbing out past Willoughby Falls, Green Park and the Cammeray Golf Course. We walk via Anzac Park to St Leonards Park from where we can enjoy a spectacular view over the Harbour. A final descent brings us to the Harbour Bridge and Milson’s Point Station (enthusiastic walkers can continue across the Harbour Bridge to finish at Wynyard station - an extra 3km). Park on a fire trail off Sunnyside Ridge Road and walk east to the head of a tributary of Wild Gorge. Descend it, visiting Dome Cave along the way, then explore both branches of the gorge, including Pinch Point Circle. Move south east and out towards Carne Creek, then climb out and visit Cosmic Cave. This section of the Great North Walk starts from Hornsby Train Station and winds down along the Blue Gum Walk into Fishponds and along Berowra Creek. The walk passes through the Tunks Ridge Reserve and then into Galston Gorge. From here we walk to Hornsby Heights via McKay Firetrail where we will catch a bus to Hornsby. The Putney Punt, officially known as the Mortlake Ferry, is the only remaining car ferry in metropolitan Sydney. This walk starts at the Kissing Point Ferry wharf. A short walk takes us to the Punt. After crossing Parramatta River to Mortlake, and a short walk to Green Point, the walk continues upstream around the bays past Yaralla House, Rivendell, Concord Hospital and along the Kokoda Track walkway to Rhodes. We recross Parramatta River to Meadowbank via the John Whitton Bridge (the old rail bridge). Walkers wishing to complete the circuit can add a 2km walk to the Kissing Point Ferry. A three day, two night camp near a fabulous pool in Erskine Creek at the junction with Lincoln/Monkey Ropes Creek. Great swimming and stay two nights at a nice campsite. Plenty of options for a part-day walk along Erskine Creek to other swimming holes. Entry and return will be a short, but rough, walk via Monkey Ropes Creek and a newish track to the Nepean Lookout road. This is a perfect way to spend a long summer weekend.
