Grade:4/6 | Length | 17km | 320m | Sydney Branch | |
(SWAG) Geoffrey.L | |||||
(Cancelled) We did this stunning walk as a training walk for Cape to Cape. As it is so beautiful, we are putting it on again in Spring when there will be even more wildflowers, so that others can enjoy it as well. This walk starts from Manly, pass a couple of beaches, a couple of lookouts, a hole in Bluefish wall. Then we explore the hanging swamps of Northhead, North Fort, observation post, 2 gun pits, barrel display, and the memorial walk. We will have morning tea at a prestigious point where you see the beautiful South Head from a distance. You can even treat yourself to a cup of coffee and a slice. From there, we will continue our way back to Manly, passing beautiful Collins Flat Beach, amongst lovely houses and ocean views. We can have a good break at Manly seashore for lunch. Then we will continue along some historic buildings and along the waterfront to the Spit. The walk to the Spit is studded with wildflowers at the moment. It is a wonderful treat to have the sea on your left and the spring flowers on your right. We walk past more beautiful beaches before hitting The Spit. For those who are feeling energetic, we will walk along the waterfront, tide permitting to beautiful Balmoral Beach where you can celebrate with a c0ol drink or ice cream. That will be an extra 3 km. This trip includes flights, accommodation, meals, lectures, guided walks (day walks, night walks, reef walks, mystery walks, museum walk) and any fun activities that we can slot in. We will engage the best-known local expert Ian Hutton to share his in-depth knowledge about the flora, fauna, history and conservation of this world heritage. From the small township of Walpole, we will travel along a series of good tracks through the towering Tingle forests, colourful heathlands, beautiful beaches, granite peaks and through the towns of Peaceful Bay and Denmark where new supplies can be purchased, allowing for lighter packs. The tracks are well marked and make for easy walking. Halfway through the walk we will have a rest day in Denmark. At each campsite there is a hut which can be used as well as water supply, toilets and tables so this is hardly roughing it! The wildflowers at this time of the year are outstanding and you can expect to also see a fair amount of wildlife including seals, quokkas, wallabies and numerous birds to name a few. In short, this is a fabulous walk and one not to be missed. Limit: 17. View |
