Save the Kosciuszko National Park from wild horses and other feral animals. One of the walks we do will be the last leg of the 37 day Save Kosci Walk from Sydney to Mount Kosciusko. I will be traveling to stay at a Perisher Valley Ski Lodge from Thursday to Monday. You can travel on Thursday or Friday and leave Monday. You must arrange your own car transport. Only RSVP if you can commit because pre-payment is required once confirmed. Please indicate the dates of accommodation you require with your full name, I'll see if I can secure accommodation for you. The cost is about $40 per person per night. Bring all food and linen. We must leave the lodge in the same condition we found it. Strong wind, rain, snow patches, slippery sections. (Updated Details) As the name of the walk suggests, I expect this to be one of the most incredible traverse journeys in the Greater Blue Mountains. Early start. Leave one vehicle at GR 243 305 on Glen Davis Road and drive to Airly Gap. Ascend the spur towards Airly Turret, then continue clockwise close to the rim of the escarpment all the way to the Ultimate View and to The Citadel and then to the tip of the spur at GR 255 301. Use a known pass to descend to the first car. Pagodas and views paradise. Scrambling and exposure. Location: Mugii Murum-ban SCA Map: Glen Alice 89314N and Ben Bullen 89314S View |

Mark G. | |||||
Deep Pass is regarded as one of the prettier and most accessible canyons in the Wollemi as there's no abseiling and if careful you don't get wet past your knees. Rock hopping and scrambling and slippery rocks. Location: Wollemi NP Map: Rock Hill 89312N Limit: 15. View |
8 Dec, Sat | Ethereal Canyon & Falls
Grade:5/6 | Length | 8km | Sydney Branch
Yuri B. | |||||
Find out why Newnes State Forest, situated within the Gardens of Stone region, must be protected for future generations.
Park one vehicle at GR 465 014 off Waratah Ridge Road and another one at about GR 460 005. From the first vehicle, descend into Ethereal Canyon and follow it through a beautiful canyon section and to the falls. No abseiling, but wet feet and more likely. Then visit the small but stunning Midsummers Night Grotto. From there, ascend to the Five Ladies Lookout over the Bungleboori and its pagodas (Three Sisters, watch out). Re-connect with the second car. Spectacular scenery, all unprotected within the State Forest. Location: Newnes SF Map: Wollangambe 89312S View |

9 Dec, Sun | Beehive Fort Tour
Branch | |||||
General Community Event
NPWS is conducting a series of guided tours of this historic fortification in Sydney Harbour National Park. We'll explore the rarely opened Beehive Casemate as part of this tour at Middle Head, near Mosman.
The Beehive Casement battery was built in 1872 as part of the outer line of defence for Sydney Harbour. Normally all you'll see of the battery are three 3.7m x 2.1m-high openings in a cliff face. On this tour you'll go beneath the cliffs of Obelisk Bay, Sydney Harbour to view the inside of the fortification. You'll also gain an insight into what the soldiers did for entertainment during World War I. It's a good idea to wear sturdy walking shoes, and bring sunscreen, a hat, snacks, drinking water and a torch. Location: Sydney Harbour National Park View |

9 Dec, Sun | Save Kosci: Charlotte Pass to summit and return (unless we walked it yesterday)
Length | 19km | Branch | |||
General Community Event
Save Kosci walk: day 37. Contacts on the morning: try 0473 919 441 or 0409 764 785 or 0488 071 203. Suggest you persist till you hear a human voice – unfortunately text messages and left-messages may get missed in the rush. The main group of walkers will head up the closed road from Charlotte Pass to the summit, 19 km return. Small groups will be converging on the summit from other directions – so far we know of two groups walking in from Victoria, one along the Main Range, one from Guthega and one up Hannels Spur. Walkers seeking an easier day can walk from Thredbo Top Station. The several lines of yellow-vested walkers converging on the summit at lunch time will make a great shot from the air, for which Save Kosci is hiring a helicopter. On the summit, please stay on tracks and rocky ground to be kind to the vegetation. Impeccable courtesy to regular tourists please, the media will be watching. After the walk, return to your lodge or drive home (or keep walking, if you are doing the AAWT!) Parking: Please park in Charlotte Pass village and arrange own car shuffles or walk up to Charlotte Pass turning circle (i.e. leave some space near Charlotte Pass for regular tourists). Three Save Kosci support drivers will be assisting with shuffling walkers to the start. Start: Turning circle at Charlotte Pass i.e. at locked gate on Kosciuszko Road. Please arrive between 7:30 and 8:15am for an 8:30am start. Collect yellow vests and sign in. Re-group at Rawsons Pass 11:15 am to 11:45am, rather than head on up at your own pace (better for photos). Arrive summit 12:15 to 12:30pm. Lunch on summit. Wave at helicopter. Not planning any speeches. Return at own pace, aim to be back at trail head by 4pm. Sign out and optionally return yellow vests. Accommodation: Own arrangements. Transport to start and at end of day: Own arrangements. For more info and to register go to https://savekosci.org/ View |
