Vehicles with reasonable ground clearance needed for access to the trackheads. Walks are short but rough and if you want to explore to the waters edge need to be agile. Plan is to swim if conditions are good. Also going to drive a short distance up the highway to visit the rock pool off Parma Creek Road.  This activity is dependent on condition of the firetrail access at the time. From there, follow Wheeny Creek upstream, to a tributary at GR 778 916. Walk up that tributary, exploring for caves and other points of interest. Exit near the trail and return to the vehicles. About 15 km. Wet feet and more. Scrambling and exposure. Mostly exploratory.

The Alpine flowers should be at their peak at this time of year, and the fresh air is most invigorating! Also, there is a new major track to check out and much, much more. As in previous years, we will stay at Charlottes Pass in a very comfortable abode, The Southern Alps ski lodge, and from this centrally located residence, we will venture out on day walks. This lodge is totally DIY and rooms are twin-share with larger rooms accommodating up to 4 people.i can accommodate a couple of single people but theres a single supplement.Regarding sharing I'll arrange rooms with a woman sharing with another woman and visa versa! Needless to say, this trip is always my most popular of the year, so if interested, don't delay and contact me.

Taking in views at Fortress Ridge Rock lookout, then down the track to Dr Dark’s cave for morning tea. Going past the cave to the cliff side lookout before returning back to the cave. Turn off the track to the cave for a short off track section to Fortress Ridge track.  Continue on this track and taking the side track down to Fortress creek. Return back to Fortress Ridge track. Lunch spot somewhere with views from the Fortress Ridge track. Return to cars at Mt Hay road along track. Hazards include slippery rocks and loose rocks. Off track section is 400 m with 100 m elevation gain and is where loose rocks will be encountered. Grade 4 due to this section of walk, otherwise would be grade 3.

Some members missed out the Fireworks event last year. Philip is again happy to take a group to a not crowded secret spot to see the 9 pm fireworks. If you wish to have dinner before, meet at Canton Cafe at Dixon Street at 6 pm. If you prefer to just go direct to fireworks, meet outside the cafe at 7:30 pm. Bring a drink (not glass) and snacks while we wait for the fireworks. After the fireworks, walk to the light rail or Central to catch train or bus to go home, unless you wish to stay for the midnight. When RSVP, please state if you will attend dinner. Limit: 10. View

Canyon | A trip through a canyon (a gully surrounded by tall cliffs).Swim | A trip that involves swimmingWalk | A bushwalk of any kind short or long(Fully Booked - Ask leader about waiting list) When the heat of summer is upon us, where do you head? To a Blue Mountains canyon to cool off and revive body and soul! On this trip we will experience not 1 but 3 canyons with Du Faur Canyon being the main course. The equally spectacular, but much shorter October Creek being the entree, and the Joes Canyon the dessert for what promises to be a superb day swimming, paddling and savouring these amazingly beautiful locations. I can promise you an amazing aquatic time! You'll need a helmet, wetsuit and I recommend a flotation device such as a surfmat, and life jacket as there are some longish swims involved. Rock scrambling/off-track walking/swimming.

Follow Nattai River upstream to Slott Way track. Follow Slott Way track to Needle Lookout. Possible lunch stop. Continue to junction with Ahearn Lookout Track. Time available will decide on including lookout. From track junction continue to Junction with Starlights Trail and then to car parked on Nattai Road. Hazards include river crossings, slippery rocks and hard to follow tracks.

On the way we will view the magnificient stone walls of the original road from Kangaroo Valley to Mossvale. See the old road disappear into the waters of Lake Yarrunga and reappear further upstream.  On return to Beehive point we can optionally poke around the numerous inlets for some bonus paddles. Participants to provide their own craft & are required to wear a correctly fitted PFD. Deep water. Few exit points. Exposed in high winds. Approx 100 m of portage down a road to launch area.

The flannel flowers are abundant at this time of the year. The 10km Manly Scenic Walkway beings at Manly Wharf, passes sandy beaches, ancient Aboriginal sites and incredible lookouts, before arriving at the Spit Bridge where you can catch a bus to the city.
  • Distance and time: 10km one-way
  • Level: Grade 3 track. Suitable for most ages and fitness levels with occasional sections of stairs. There are also sections of sand, bush tracks and boardwalk. Not suitable for prams or wheelchair users.
  • Top attractions: Clontarf ReserveGrotto Point Aboriginal engraving site, Crater Cove Lookout, Forty Baskets Reserve and Manly.
  • Toilet facilities at the start and end of the walk and at Clontarf Reserve, Reef Beach, Forty Baskets Beach, North Harbour Reserve and Fairlight Beach.
  • Drinking fountains are available at Clontarf Reserve, Fairlight Beach and Manly.
