Medium pace. Bushwalking experience required. Walking from Otford to Bundeena via Burning Palms Beach, Garie Beach, Eagle Rock, Curracurrang, Wattamolla. Some exposed sections, the track is fairly tough, following the coast up and over many headlands, some of which are a steep climb. Carry plenty of water, snacks, morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. Walk is planned to finish at Bundeena at approx. 4:30pm, in time for the 5pm ferry from Bundeena to Cronulla. Today we walk from Bundeena to Wattamolla. Always wanted to do the Coast Track but 28 km and 900 m elevation in one day is not your cup of tea? This is your chance to do it in 3 sections with public transport option.
Take train and ferry to Bundeena Wharf. Walk to Wattamolla. Catch the shuttle from Wattamolla to Sutherland Station at end of walk. Fare is $10. Ask leader for payment details for group booking.

Then onto Ikara Head for great views of the Gross River valley. We will be meeting at Mt Victoria Station and proceed by car to the track head. Numbers attending will be limited by the number of people offering to drive people from the station. Park the vehicles at the locked gate at the end of Waratah Ridge Road. Walk into and down the Hair of the Dog Ravine at GR 493 038. After exiting the ravine, make our way west to Cerberus Creek and its canyon. Go through the canyon, visiting Cerberus Falls and exit at about GR 472 038. Walk on the road back to the cars. So we have one night on Round Mountain fire trail then two lovely nights at both Pretty Plain and then Wheelers Huts. FIRST LOOP, Early start due to tides. Best to travel by own transport. Meet at the parking area opposite Otford Pie Shop then follow cliff track to Bald Hill. Descend to Stanwell Park and follow a faint track and rocky shoreline to Snake Gully. Ascend and follow off-track section to Bulgo Beach. Return to Pie Shop on well-formed track. SECOND LOOP, follow coast track and descend to the Hell Hole, Werrong Beach. Ascend on an old indistinct track to Werrong Point and lookout. Some of the regular walks have been heavily impacted by fire, some Snowy huts and other infrastructure destroyed but others not, so we’ll need to carefully select which areas to visit. Importantly we will have the opportunity to survey and learn what’s happening with the recovery of the landscape by then while offering support to the impacted communities of the region. (Cancelled) Apparently not germinated and flowered since 1957, there is a fantastic show of pink flannel flowers (Actinotus forsythii) at Ikara Head. They appear after bushfire (2019) followed by heavy rain.
We'll walk out to Ikara Head and back, taking our time to admire the flowers. Distance 6 km return. If time and interest we will add on additional walking tracks. Social distancing, rocks, rough tracks. Map: Mt Wilson Limit: 15. View |
