We will walk from Parramatta to Shoalhaven Heads in sections. This week we walk from Chiswick to Drummoyne along the Parramatta River. Attractions: Bill Fisher Reserve, Taplin Park, Brett Park, Nield Park, Leichhardt Park, Callan Park, King George Park, Iron Cove Bridge. We can possibly have morning tea at Birkenhead Shopping Centre and lunch at Callan Park.

Park one car at GR 430 228 on Wolgan Road, then drive to Newnes and park another car at locked gate GR 420 250. Walk up Capertee Creek Valley and climb the Grand Balcony, continue to Eldorado Traverse and Eldorado Slots. Then use the Ariadne Thread to descend into Minotaur Lair for the return to the first car. All NPA members are invited to take part in a Zoom based webinar being hosted by Illawarra branch. ‘Drivers and trends in bushfire risk and how it affects the Illawarra’ being presented by NPA member Dr Owen Price. Owen is the director of the Centre for Environmental Risk Management of Bushfires at the University of Wollongong. He joined the bushfire centre in 2007 after researching wildlife conservation for 15 years. He has pioneered studies to measure the effectiveness of bushfire risk reduction strategies including prescribed burning. Splendour Rock offers superlative views and getting there is half the fun! Our route takes us from Green Gully, down Carlons Creek then up Black Horse Ridge, along the Wombat Parade and up and over Mounts Merrimerrigal and Dingo until we reach our goal, Splendour Rock. From here we drop down to the main track to Mobbs Swamp before retracing our steps back down the ridge to breakfast and finally the last section back to the cars. Rock scrambling in a few sections. Starting with a steep climb from Wondabyne Train station you will explore a series of large rock platforms with wide views over the Brisbane Water National Park and visit Scopas Peak. After Scopas walk you cross a few pleasant rocky gullies before crossing Piles Creek on the Phil Houghton suspension foot bridge. Here the walk heads towards Mooney Mooney Creek before walking up to the Mooney Mooney Creek Trackhead on the Old Pacific Hwy. You'll need to bring a car for car shuffling purposes. We are walking the pretty Gibberagong Walking Track, following Cockle Creek to Bobbin Head and then taking the fire trail with wildflowers and great views, to North Turramurra. The NPWS burn off in this area has been postponed so we will enjoy the area before that occurs. Creek crossings, steps, rough track surfaces in places with a steep climb up, at first, from Bobbin Head. The fire trail does not have much shade.
