Save Kosci: day 7. A 17km day, mostly downhill or flat. Walking to Hill Top village on the dis-used railway line, to avoid the narrow verges and cuttings of Wilson Drive. Then some quiet side roads, a bit of busier road. In Colo Vale we start to encounter the wide, mown verges that are a feature of the garden-proud Southern Highlands. The fringes of Mittagong provide another good opportunity to drop hand-outs in letterboxes. Allow 5 to 6 hours walking time. Suggested accommodation – Melrose and Mittagong Motels. Drive to Newnes and park at the locked gate at the Wolgan River Trail at GR 425 262. Walk the trail to GR 464 269 and walk in at the bottom of Starlight Canyon. Proceed to the last abseil and back. Swim/wade likely. Glowworms may be seen. Then visit the bottom of Devils Pinch Canyon, starting at GR 468 269. Both canyons are very impressive in their lower parts. Scrambling and exposure.
