Rocky creek canyon |
Grade:5/6 |
Length |
6km |
250m |
Sydney Branch |
Mark G. |
Rocky creek canyon is the classic canyon and is regarded as an entry level wet canyon as it does not have any abseils but does have several short swims with the longest being about 30 metres. The scenery in this canyon is unparalleled as its sculptured walls are regarded as the best you'll find anywhere. On this trip I plan to do the full length and climb up the exit track which means we won't have to double back and climb up the cascades. Participants should have the following gear, helmet, wetsuit, drybag, PFD if you are not a proficient swimmer. I have rated this a 5 because there are some tricky scrambles down cascades to negotiate and a rocky climb out at the end. rock scrambling and slippery conditions Location: Wollemi NP Map: Rock Hill 89312N Limit: 12.

Corkscrew canyon is in the upper section of South Bowen creek drainage system and is a relatively easyish canyon to do as it does not involved any abseils or long swims but rewards the curious hiker with stunning constricted passages, sculptured clifflines, gorgeous cascades and pools and the chance to see an area not all that often visited. Helmet, wetsuit, drybag and a PFD required for those who aren't competent swimmers. rock scrambling and offtrack Location: Wollemi NP Map: Mt Wilson Limit: 12.

Kosciuszko Pack Walk |
Grade:4/6 |
Length |
50km |
1,300m |
Sydney Branch |
Richard T. |
A repeat for those who missed the walk last year (like me!). The Pretty Plain area is a lovely part of Kosciuszko National Park. Great scenery, lovely bushland, and two of the best of the huts to camp nearby. Even better, we spend multiple days near each hut (two nights at Pretty Plain and three nights at Wheelers). Access is via Dargals Trail to Pretty Plain (a new way thanks the exploration of the last year's group). We return along Pretty Plain, Hell Hole Track and take the shortcut across to Wheelers Hut. Return from Wheelers Hut is again via Dargals Trail. At the start and end of walk we stay at a Ski Lodge at Jindabyne with the usual BBQs on the deck overlooking the lake. A lovely walk with relaxing time near the huts. Location: Kosciuszko NP Limit: 12.

(Fully Booked - Ask leader about waiting list) The Frenchmans Cap track in Tasmania's central plateau is an outstanding walk to one of the states tallest peaks, and allows the adventurous hiker to experience a landscape of outstanding beauty whilst being able to stay in comfortable huts along the way. This will be my 5th visit to the area and I'm as excited to revisit as I was on my first trip there back in the early 1980s, as unlike the Overland Track which is full of people, you'll often have the track to yourself. possible snow and rain with a steep track in parts Location: franklin -gordon wild rivers national park Limit: 18.
