This walk connects the shores of Dee Why Lagoon and Narrabeen Lagoon. Starting at Collaroy it goes via the Long Reef headland and follows the coastline to Dee Why Lagoon. After crossing Pittwater road several flights of steps lead up to Collaroy Plateau for breathtaking views over the coastline. Between Town Hall and Circular Quay the walk passes some beautiful sculptures of birds (Terrance Plowright's "Dancing Brolgas", Michael Thomas's Hill's "Forgotten Songs", Tracey Emin's " The Distance of your Heart” and Stephen Walker's “Tank Stream” fountains). After a ferry ride the walk continues on Cockatoo Island where the seagulls are raising their chicks. Live pigeons, ibis and seagulls included!. Steps, city traffic, swooping seagulls. The August Zoom meeting will visit the Hay Plain and settle somewhere within the delightful Kalyarr National Park, the traditional Country of the Nari Nari People and also the childhood home of Branch member Valerie Atkinson. The presentation will include images of the sweeping plain, the vegetation along the Lachlan and the wildlife within it. It will also be an interactive session with Valerie Atkinson as we explore her times on Norwood and surrounding stations. Consider this part pictorial, part "My Story" and part an invitation to join the NPA on its late September field trip to this beautiful part of the world. Find out why this area must be better protected for future generations. Park at the bottom of Angus Place Trail and follow it till about GR 312 052. Descend into a gully to the south west and traverse the extremely dissected pagoda terrain, generally following the cliff line, for as long as the time allows. From the Visitors centre we will descend to Glenbrook gorge and follow the Gorge downstream, finding our way along river via rocky terraces, sand bars and several crossings of the creek. Then we ascend up to Portal Lookout which will involve some climbing of the ropes set up there already and, after a walk along the top fire trail, descend the stunning Tunnel View ridge back down to Glenbrook creek. Lastly we retrace our footsteps back up the track to the Visitors centre. Rock hopping, several crossings of Glenbrook creek and pulling yourself up the ropes onto Portal Lookout. Booking opens 2 weeks prior to event. A walk through foreshore bushland near Chatswood, Sydney. A nice way to get into bush without leaving the suburbs with middle harbour by your side. Expect a variety of vegetation and landscapes a long the way plus some view points. It goes past or through rainforest, mangroves, the river and some street sections. It does have some steep sections and steps along the way. A great spot to get some exercise without having to go far.
