31 Aug, Sat 8:00AM | McCleans Pass – Mt Jamison – Point Cameron and return
Grade:4/6 | Length | 11km | 200m | Sydney Branch
Mark G. | |||||
This is a walk which must rate as one of my favourite in the Gardens of Stone National Park. The views along the way are quite frankly incredible with wide ranging vistas of Pantoneys Crown and the Capertee Valley as we seek out and explore such beautiful spots as McCleans Pass, Dead Tree Camp Canyon and Point Cameron before returning the same way. The pagodas along the way are a photographers delight and you would be hard pressed to find a better skyline traverse. Rock scrambling and some off-track walking. From Thornleigh to Hornsby. Starting at Thornleigh Station we walk through suburban streets for a short while before diving into the bush at the southern end of Berowra Valley Regional Park. Soon after visiting the site of the historic Zig Zag railway we start wandering through the Berowra Creek Valley, passing a few cascading creeks. The track undulates along the side of the valley visiting a range of environments from moist fern forest to the drier grass tree and eucalypt forests of the ridge. There is a short side trip to visit the Westleigh engravings and a chance to pop down to fishponds, before climbing up the depression era stone steps to Hornsby Station. Steep and slippery sections.
