Above Carne Creek are a series of spectacular caves, Weather, Rain, Gemini, Micheangelo and Twin Arch to name a few, and they are all worth visiting. Below these via the aptly named Miracle Slot are outcrops of superb pagodas, the Pyramid Rocks also worth exploring. This isn't a long trip distance wise but it will excite and delight you! Rock scrambling and off-track.
I've had this walk on the program on 2 previous occasions and I was thwarted both times in doing this trip because the Glowworm Tunnel Road was closed. I'm hopeing that this will be 3rd time lucky! This walk is for lovers of steps. It ascends and descends several flights of steps on both sides of Spit Bridge. The walk follows the beginning of the Spit to Manly route as far as Clontarf, then climbs steps to Balgowlah. It crosses to Seaforth to enjoy a breathtaking view of Spit Bridge before descending via steep steps to the Bridge. On the Beauty Point side of the Bridge the walk follows waterfront bush tracks to Quakers Bay before climbing and crossing Spit Road. It descends via sets of steps to Chinamans Beach and finally climbs up to bushland for an alternative view of Spit Bridge. Steep flights of steps. The walk takes in views of Mt Gibraltar (Highest point between Sydney and Canberra), Ninety Acre Hill Lookout and a track which winds through a beautiful fern gully. The track is sometimes overgrown and difficult to locate.

Incredibly rugged and populated by more pagodas,slots and ravines and superlative viewing points than you can possibly imagine it will keep the adventurous bushwalker focused and delighted for as long as youre hearts desire.

Early start. The walk starts at GR 744 018 on D’Arcy Trail. Walk north, then north east on a ridge and descend into Blacksmiths Creek at GR 761 036. Climb north up the ridge to the cliff line and follow it around to Pink Star Cave. Descend to Blacksmiths Creek via a gully to the south. To make the ascent, take either a gully to the west, or Long Gully to the south east. Walk back to the start. Partly exploratory. About 12 km. Scrambling and exposure. This walk crosses the Lane Cove River valley from Turramurra to Epping. It starts from the ridge at Turramurra and heads west down to the Lane Cove River, crosses it at Browns Waterhole, then follows Terrys Creek upstream on the other side, finishing at Epping. This presentation will discuss Thomas Vallance Wran's significance in Australian art history and role of sculpture as architecture’s silent voice, inasmuch as ‘architecture is history’.
Thomas Vallance Wran (1832- 1891) came to Rockhampton in 1870 as a selector and established himself in Balmain 2 years later. His sculptures can be seen on major Sydney monuments such as the General Post Office, The Great Synagogue, Annandale Creative Arts Centre and Founders Hall at Newington College. His last work is a coat of arms on Balmain Court House.
