The Overland Track, Tasmania |
Grade:4/6 |
Length |
65km |
|
Sydney Branch |
Mark G. |
(Fully Booked - Ask leader about waiting list) Cradle Mountain to Lake St. Clair. Arguably Australia's premier long-distance walk, The Overland Track is undoubtedly a walk of superlatives, not the least being the supremely beautiful landscape you travel through from Cradle Mountain all the way down south to Lake St. Clair.
On this trip I plan to do several side trips (optional), including climbing Barn Bluff, Mt Oakleigh, Mt Ossa, as well as visiting the Labyrinth. The cost of the walk is $200 and you have the option of staying in the huts along the way, open to availability, but you do have to carry a tent or arrange to share with another. We will get picked up in Launceston and taken to the walk start and again at the finish of the walk will get transported from Cynthia Bay back to Hobart. 4 seasons in one day is Tassies mantra so expect any sort of climatic conditions. This is a good walk for wet conditions as we are mainly walking on sand, rocks and some raised walkways. We will walk to Jibbon Head and visit the aboriginal engravings on the way. Then walk along the Jibbon Head 4WD track, as it gently climbs 40 metres up sandhills to the junction with the coastal track. Afterwards we follow it to the Balconies and beyond, before returning to the ferry at Bundeena. Spectacular coastal views and coastal heath bushland. Booking essential, giving your mobile, emergency contact and NPA numbers, please. It could be slippery and possibly slushy in places. Walking on sand does require more effort.
