10-12 Feb, Fri-Sun Kangaroo Valley Weekend – Music, Walking, Kayaking

Book into Glenmack Caravan Park (Cabin or camping). Saturday morning walk around, explore area. Saturday afternoon/night attend Red Hot Summer Music festival Berry showground (Paul Kelly, Missy Higgins, Troy Cassar- Daley, Vika and Linda Bull etc) Sunday morning walk to Kangaroo River and hire kayaks. Kayak 5km downstream to Bendeela where you get picked up and bought back to town.  Walk back to town for a late lunch at the Friendly Inn and drive home.  You will need to organise your own accommodation and purchase music tickets. PFDs compulsory. View

Walks will include: Day1 : Rusden Head & Florence Head LO's via Little Forest Day 2: Didthul (Pidgeon House Mt) Walking Track Day 3: Mt Bushwalker Track to Ngaityung Falls Rainforest walk from George Boyd LO/Granite Falls Day 4: Narrawallee Inlet via Inland Cycad Forest. Narrawallee Inlet,  Buckleys's Head & Return to Camp / Narrawallee Creek Nature Reserve Alternate long walk: Berrara Waterfall. Afternoons: swims and kayaks. Hazards: Unfenced cliffs, 1x steep climb.

A beautiful campsite on a high knoll surrounded by snowgums and overlooking the mountain and large snow plain.
Day 1-Walk in and establish camp.
Day 2-Climb Jagungal with daypacks only. (Luxury).
Day 3-Walk back to cars at Round Mt. FT gate.
This is a wilderness area and numbers will be limited. Pls phone if unknown to leader.

Camp | An activity that involves an overnight stay, usually in a tent.Walk | A bushwalk of any kind short or long(Fully Booked - Ask leader about waiting list) Surrounded by 2 stunning national parks, Newnes is a perfect place to base yourself at Easter to explore many of the spectacular mountains located in this area. Accommodation will be in the 4 very comfortable Newnes cabins but for those who couldnt fit into the cabins,the Newnes Hotel has excellent camping sites complete with hot showers and amenities block.Bookings for camping can be made via the Newnes Hotel website. Rock scrambling and off-track sections.

When you rsvp, please provide your full name, contact no,  email address and bedding configuration.  A few members from NPA did this walking tour of Kimberley last winter and the feedbacks were positive.  For your comfort level, I’’m quoting  the insight from Graham. “The walks are no problem for NPA grade 3 walkers. Lots of river stone/rock walking cause they are mostly in gorges. Not long walks. 30 to 34 Deg every day. Down to 10-12 deg some nights so camping gets cool. Campfires. Coolest nights July. It will operate as a tag-along (self-drive convoy) 4WD trip with new locations on most days. You may camp, attach a vehicle camper (preferred) or tow an off-road camper-trailer. Mallee country, visiting Murray-Sunset NP, Big Desert Wilderness Park & Wyperfeld NP featuring a vast desert with saltbush flats and grassland plains scattered with sand dunes and the famous Pink Lakes are outstanding subjects for photography, with large numbers of emus, kangaroos, native birds, attractive woodlands and colourful spring wildflower displays. Followed by The Grampians NP, spectacular mountain peaks and dramatic rock formations feature picturesque waterfalls, panoramic views and fascinating Aboriginal rock art sites. Dramatic lookouts and a network of excellent walking tracks. The massive sandstone ramparts of the Grampians rear up from the western end of Victoria’s Great Dividing Range, reaching more than 1000 metres above the surrounding fertile plains. Known as Gariwerd by the local Aboriginal people, it has an indigenous history stretching back for thousands of years.
