(Fully Booked - Ask leader about waiting list) Set against a great sheer cliff, a flat platform of rock seems to float out above the expansive Carne Creek Valley. This is the “Flying Carpet” and we will take a ride on it for magnificent views across the valley. Make sure you hold on! Time permitting, we will also have a look at some of the big caves and overhangs under the cliffs. Group numbers are limited due to the short but tricky climb up onto the “Flying Carpet”, and I’m rating it a 5 simply due to this section. You’ll need to be comfortable using a long tape (provided). The rest of the walk is about a grade 4 being almost all off-track walk through gullies with open forest, big cliffs and at least one big cave. Steep rock scrambling with tape and off-track walking. Starting from Sandham road between Bell and Dargan, follow the track to Dargan Arch. Descend into gully beside the arch. The track fades as we go past the arch and cross the creek. Make way through bush and up other side of creek to spurs heading east until reaching ridge top and finding track to Goochs Crater. Follow track along ridge then down across Wollangambe River then up to next ridge and on to Goochs Crater. Return via same route. Depending on time may explore entrance to Billabong Canyon near Goochs Crater. River crossings, steep track, off-track section. Not too far off the glow worm road is an amazing dissected plateau known as Rock Island which for the enquiring bushwalker, is a place of great interest! Topped with interesting pagodas and with various nooks, crannies and overhangs to explore, it's certainly worth the effort of getting there! rock scrambling Location: Wollemi NP Map: Mount Morgan 89311S and Cullen Bullen 89313N Limit: 15.
