Starting the walk via the Vale lookout and great views over the lower Grose River, then the Vale of Avoca trail to the Grose River. Cross the river and pick up track on south side going up stream. Cross river near confluence with Cabbage Tree Creek. The Paterson Hill off track section begins from here, a steep climb to Paterson hill from the creek confluence. Look for log book near cairn. Return down spur to Cabbage Tree Creek, then follow creek to Grose River. Anyone wanting an easier walk can remain at the Grose River swimming pools and enjoy a swim. Return via The Wire track, a short but steeper track that joins the fire trail to the parked cars. Hazards include off track walking, river and creek crossings, steep exposed rock faces. Location: Blue Mountains National Park Map: Kurrajong 9030-4N Limit: 12.
