Briefing will be held outside Cowan Station after the arrival of the 9:39am from Central to Newcastle. This section is a steep walk with many lookouts. There should be many wild flowers. Starting the walk via the Vale lookout and great views over the lower Grose River, then the Vale of Avoca trail to the Grose River. Cross the river and pick up track on south side going up stream. Cross river near confluence with Cabbage Tree Creek. The Paterson Hill off track section begins from here, a steep climb to Paterson hill from the creek confluence. Look for log book near cairn. Return down spur to Cabbage Tree Creek, then follow creek to Grose River. Anyone wanting an easier walk can remain at the Grose River swimming pools and enjoy a swim. Return via The Wire track, a short but steeper track that joins the fire trail to the parked cars. Hazards include off track walking, river and creek crossings, steep exposed rock faces. (Nearly fully booked) One of my favourite Blue Mountains Walks, Porters Pass has a bit of everything. Shaded grottos, waterfalls, fern filled gullies, cliff top walks, Pagodas and Fort Rock. Commencing from the Western end of Burton Road we will pick up the over cliff wall to Fort Rock before descending into Centennial Glen. We will check out the upper falls and Walls Ledge before descending into the Centennial Glen Falls. We will take some time to appreciate the grotto half way down the falls. We will then proceed to the base of the falls before backtracking slightly to follow the track to the bottom of the valley. From there we will follow Porters Pass Gully back up and into Porters Pass where we will admire a second grotto hidden in the pass. We will have lunch on the pagodas overlooking the valley. If time permits, we will visit Walls Cave on the Eastern side of Blackheath to take in the slot canyon at the base of the steps and spend time in quiet contemplation inside the amphitheatre of Walls Cave, an area significant to the Darug people. Allow 5 hours for the first walk. 7km and 500m elevation. Allow an additional 1.5 hours for second walk.1.6km and 130m elevation. (NEW!!!) Please advise by email or text message if you are coming. The Coba Ridge to Collingridge Point walking track is a pleasant walk through the Marramarra National Park. It offers spring wildflowers and stunning views of Berowra Creek. This track is mainly flat. The track starts at the end of Bloodwood Road and follows the Coba ridge fire trail for 4kms to a junction. At this junction you keep right and follow the track south for another km. You then come to an unfenced sandstone outcrop with views overlooking Collingridge point and Berowra creek, In addition to the unfenced sandstone outcrop, the usual track hazards such as tree roots across tracks and slippery rocks on tracks could occur.
