The walk from Cowan to Brooklyn is a very popular walk. The nearby walk to Taffys Rock leaves the main track, and is much more secluded, with better views. The walk is good in winter as it mainly follows ridges, and is reasonably exposed to the sun. The track is well marked as far as the turnoff to Taffys Rock. From there it is likely to be marked by cairns, but there are no official markers, Steep and Slippery sections. Some clambering Location: Hawkesbury River Map: Hawkesbury Limit: 12. View |

The route to the wharf is down the McElhone stairs which has 100 stone steps. (A level alternative route can be taken if stairs are a problem so let me know in your reply). We’ll walk up a few steps to inspect the progress on the extensions to the Art Gallery of NSW before walking into the Botanic Gardens. After taking in the spring beauty of the gardens, we’ll walk along the foreshore past the Opera House, Circular Quay, Campbell Cove, Walsh Bay and its sculptures, and have a picnic lunch together at Barangaroo Park. There will be time to explore the park and do some rock hopping to observe how the sandstone blocks are weathering to provide habitat for marine and bird life. Our walk finishes at Darling Quarter where we can enjoy a drink together from one of the cafes before catching the F4 ferry back to Circular Quay. This is a leisurely walk with a few stairs and suitable for all levels of fitness. The purpose is to enjoy the beauty of our harbour in good company. I won’t be checking my watch or heart rate. There are plenty of ‘get out’ places along the route if needed. Please bring a picnic lunch and water. Toilets, coffee, food, and ice cream are available at many places along the route.
