We walk from Canterbury Station to Ashfield, where we will go to the Leagues Club for Yum Cha. If you prefer, the Club also has a cafe and bistro for western food. If you prefer a picnic lunch, you can go to Allman Park instead. Walk will be cut short if it is a hot day. Points of interest: Canterbury Park Race Course, Canterbury Park, Gough Reserve, Yeo Park, Trinity Grammar School of which I have an affinity for, Peace Park, Peace Park Viewing Tower, beautiful old houses. There is a coffee shop at the start and for morning tea (V, GF).

Many grass trees. Some wildflowers. Steep and slippery sections. A few creek crossings.

Walk | A bushwalk of any kind short or longPublic Transport | There are public transport options to and from this activity.(DRAFT - do not publish yet) Co-leader: Heather Lakiss From Huntleys Point Wharf, we walk via Gladesvillle Reserve, Huntleys Cove, Bedlam Bay and Bedlam Bay Community Garden to  Gladesville Hospita. Tour of the hospital is from 11 am to 2 pm and costs $10 which includes morning tea. Bring picnic lunch. Originally known as Tarban Creek Lunatic Asylum, the hospital was designed by the Colonial Architect, Mortimer Lewis.  The first patients arrived from Liverpool Asylum and the Female Factory at Parramatta in 1838. The last in-patient services were closed in 1997. The site contains many buildings that are listed on the Register of the National Estate:

Over the course of the walk you will come across
  • The pristine bushland of Sydney Harbour National Park
  • An abundance of spectacular views of the harbour
  • An old Naval Base
  • Tiny harbour beaches where you can take a swim
  • A nude beach
  • Several cafes and restaurants at Chowder Bay
  • The Sydney Harbour Marine Institute where you can learn more about the Harbour
If the tide is low when we finish at Balmoral, we may extend to The Spit along the waterfront. In that case, the walk will be 17 km. Limit: 12. View

This section takes us via the spectacular Minnamurra river entrance then headlands, beaches and rock platforms to Kiama harbour and Blowhole. Steep and slippery sections. Limit: 12. View

A cliff top coastal walk, the Coogee to Bondi walk extends for six km in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. The walk features stunning views, beaches, parks, cliffs, bays and rock pools. The beaches and parks offer a place to rest, swim or a chance to eat at one of the cafes, hotels, restaurants or takeaways. Most beaches offer picnic shelters, play areas, kiosks, toilets and change-rooms.   There are rest stops with great views and seating along the coast. Optional lunch at Bondi Beach. there are some steep gradient paths and several staircases along the track.

A varied loop, which passes the Bantry Bay Aboriginal engravings next to the Engravings Track, descends to Bantry Bay along the timber Getters Track and returns via the Scenic Bluff Track. There is an enormous Aboriginal engravings site (82 figures). We will visit The Bluff Lookout, a rock outcrop from which there are unobstructed views up Bantry Bay to Middle Harbour. As we ascend the Bluff Track there's constantly changing perspective over the bay and the historic Explosives Magazine buildings. Steep and slippery sections.
