Land for a freeway through Arncliffe and Ramsgate was set aside in the 1950s. A 4km underground motorway, the M6 Stage1 Extension, is nearing completion. From Arncliffe, this walk follows tracks and bicycle paths through some remaining wetlands and waterways popular with migrating birds and twitchers, past market gardens and native flowers used in landscaping, along creeks, ponds and the shores of Botany Bay, with views to the airport runway and the controversial Freeway construction area, finishing at a patch of heritage listed forest, home to a colony of fishing bats in Ramsgate. Hazards: bicycles, swampy if wet Location: Arncliffe Map: Botany Bay 91303S Limit:14. T: From: 30 Sep 2024, 9:30AM |
