Branch
NPA NSW Office
Talk | A talk or slide show presentation.Educational | A trip where the leader will focus on teaching or training.(NEW!!!) Join leading conservation scientist James Watson, University of Queensland, for an inspiring presentation, exploring why protecting NSW’s land, rivers and oceans is critical for the future of nature and people. From healthy forests and farms, to free-flowing rivers to thriving marine sanctuaries, this inspiring talk will unpack how protected areas safeguard biodiversity, strengthen climate resilience, secure clean water, support fisheries and farming, and preserve the wild places that define our state. Our speaker will outline why this decade is a once-in-a-generation chance to build a connected network of protected areas across NSW — and why the decisions we make now will shape the future of our natural world for generations to come. Hosted by Northern Beaches Branch of NPA and North Sydney Astronomical Society (NSAS) We in Northern Beaches are excited to announce another night to view the stars Wednesday June 17 at 6 pm at the only Dark Sky Place in Sydney. Surrounded by ocean, Governor Phillip Park, Palm Beach (see map) was designated in 2024. The night will be hosted by North Sydney Astronomical Society (NSAS). Our first night in April was amazing and like a window into another world, but some people missed out, so we are putting on this 2nd opportunity. Numbers will again need to be restricted, so please contact Pamela Dawes 0419 036 800 soon. NSAS will be able to supply the telescopes but we will need to restrict numbers to 40. Please bring jumper, snacks, drinks (non alcoholic) and a chair or picnic rug. They allow about 10 people per telescope, each viewing a different area of the sky, so there will be some waiting involved. The event will be weather dependent, of course, as we need a cloud -free night. If it is cloudy weather on the day, we will need to postpone.
