(NEW!!!) Starting on Nattai Road W11E and turning off on Starlights Trail, and follow to Emmetts Flat. Morning tea at camping areas. Return on Starlights Trail and turn off to Point Hill for lunch. Continue to the junction with Ahearn Lookout Track and follow to views over Nattai River valley. Return to car parked on Nattai Road. This is a long walk that needs a reasonable pace to complete in one day, with at least six hours of walking time. Allowing some time to check out the Nattai River near the camping area and views at lookouts for a late finish. Hazards include creek crossings, slippery rocks and hard to follow tracks. From Steamers Beach carpark, we follow fire trails and a short on-road section to Stoney Creek for morning tea and a swim if hot. We then proceed southwesterly on rough tracks to Paradise Rock for lunch with a view, then a short but rough, steep and scrubby off-track section should land us on Steamers Beach for a snack and maybe another swim, and then the main track back to the cars. From Koan Cave in the north, we will travel south on the eastern side of Carne Creek, enjoying the panoramic views along the way. We will visit Shovel, Sand and Michelangelos Caves along the way, as well as numerous slots, ramps and some truly amazing stone sculptures such as the Flying Dragon, Koan Chair and many more. The Nattai River is a place not often visited but it's certainly worth the effort of getting there as it's a peaceful and spectacular place to spend a few hours searching out the odd platypus or wombat! On this walk we will descend to the river and follow it along to the Slott Way Track so making this an interesting circuit.

(Nearly fully booked) The GRNC1 crosses the great southern section of Grande Terre, the main island of New Caledonia and takes bushwalkers on a journey of a variety of habitats from tropical beaches to towering rainforests, waterfalls galore and scenic mountain ridges, making this truly a walk in paradise. There are walkers huts at each campsite and we will travel through the Blue River provincial park for a large section of the walk. Starting from Buxton Ave on the edge of Nattai NP, we follow a short distance on fire trails to pick up a track that leads us down to the Blue Forest in Thirlmere Lakes NP. Generally downhill with a total descent of 200m. Car shuffle required.

(Fully Booked - Ask leader about waiting list) Red Ledge Pass is one of the many scenic passes off the Narrowneck that are worth a visit but still pose a bit of a challenge as it's steep in parts with a rough track only to the top of the pass with a bush bash down into the valley. Then it's a walk along to Devils Hole, which is very scenic with its small stand of rainforest and giant chockstone. Off-track and scrambling. We then descend on the steep northwestern side, where the (ex)track is very overgrown, and join Wombat Ridge Trail. We follow this until we head on a footpad to Landslide Creek for a view into the valleys. Return the same way, minus the final ascent to Pigeon House. Location: Morton NP Limit: 12. View |
