(Date Changed) Starting at the Whites Creek wetland, Annandale along tree filled parks and the heritage listed sewage aqueduct to Rozelle, White and then Blackwattle Bays. Waterfront galore. The newly reopened Rozelle Parklands is a 10 hectare greenspace with views of the new West Connex Rozelle Interchange and it’s chaos. On to the century old White Bay Powerhouse for industrial heritage and Jubilee Park, Glebe. There are steps and a ramp up to Victoria Road from the Parklands. (Fully Booked - Ask leader about waiting list) A walk through an enchanted and rarely visited tree fern forest. We will climb down into a hidden world of mossy logs, giant tree ferns, (‘Dicksonia Antartica’) and small streams. Many of the old tree ferns have fallen over, but are boldly regrowing in unusual directions, giving the appearance of giant caterpillars. We will travel through two steep-sided creek valleys that are northern tributaries of Dingo Creek. Time permitting, we will also climb up onto the pagodas separating the ravines for views across the Dingo Ck system. Mostly off-track, some thick bush, and some exposed spots. Off-track. Leader: Philip Wright Camellia Gardens.  Located in Caringbah and overlooking beautiful Yowie Bay, the Gardens were recognised by the International Camellia Society as a Camellia Gardens of Excellence in 2014.  There are sixty Camellia Gardens of Excellence in the world, with the Camellia Gardens and Lisgar Gardens in Hornsby being the only two in NSW. The Gardens have over 400 cultivars and species donated and acquired since its first plantings began in 1969, in addition to many other rare ornamental and native plants. The collection is of unique value to Australian horticulture. The Gardens have something for all seasons. The camellias are in season during autumn and winter. Tea house serves delicious devonshire and lunches.   We will play by ear.  A walk at Woronora Cemetery can be added on. Location: Caringbah Limit: 15. View

Archaeologists Pam Forbes and Greg Jackson will be leading an excursion to the remains of the sawmill (c1903 - c1922) and the Scientists Hut (1925 – 1943) on Fosters Flat in the Royal National Park. Hopefully the leaches will be gone. Fosters Flat, just off McKell Avenue, contains archaeological remains of a sawmill operating in the early twentieth century, including the sawmill boiler. This sawmill was operated by James Foster of Waterfall around 1903. Beside the boiler are the remains of a timber-lined pit for the circular saw blade and there is no doubt other structure in the nearby bush. This area still abounds in durable hardwoods, turpentines (Syncarpia glomulifera) and blackbutts (Eucalyptus pilularis), and these quality hardwoods would have been logged extensively with the surrounding woodland containing evidence of this extensive logging. This sawmill was still operating in 1922, providing sawn lumber for the Metropolitan Coal Company before being closed by public pressure. The Scientists Hut (also known as the Zoologist Hut) was built on the sawmill site in 1925 and used by the Royal Zoologists Society to study the habits of birds, notably the satin bower bird. Some members may have already done this walk in 2023. This excursion will be done in conjunction with Sutherland Shire Historical Society. Possible leaches, trip hazards. With luck, there will be some winter flowers out as we walk down to the spectacular Emerald Pool and enjoy several lookouts along the way on this wonderful circuit, not all that far from the maddening crowd! Location: Popran NP Limit: 20. View

(NEW!!!) (Fully Booked - Ask leader about waiting list) Point Cameron is a great destination, but the journey there is quite astonishing. This is a long, at times challenging walk through some of the best scenery the Gardens of Stone has to offer. First we must trudge through a kilometre or two of thick scrub, but our payoff is an extended cliff and pagoda top walk high above the eastern side of the Capertee Valley. On our way, we will see Jamison Pass, the Plain of Shards, Ngamperi Rock (the original Nipple Rock) and the Pondage Canyon. Time permitting, we can also drop in on Stargate Tunnel on our return. Lisgar Gardens is a wonderful, secret garden hidden in the back streets of Hornsby. After visiting the gardens, we'll continue via bush tracks and streets to Normanhurst.
