On the way we will savour its beauty, go for a swim and do the same when we reach the river at the bottom. This is really wild country and with its pink and grey granite boulders, the Morong creek is truly an amazing place for those with an adventurous spirit. For participating hikers, I'd advise to stay in Oberon the night before as the drive to the start of the walk is much shorter. rock scrambling and offtrack

Walk | A bushwalk of any kind short or long60 Best walks | This is one of the NPA's 60 best walks.Photography | A trip that has a strong focus on encouraging people to capture photographs.(Fully Booked - Ask leader about waiting list) When the heat of Summer is upon us, where do we go to escape the heat? The Colo River Gorge of course! On this particular walk we will experience the outstanding beauty of what is essentially the lifeline and heart of the Wollemi wilderness, the stunning Colo River and in particular the section between Tootie Creek and Meroo campsite. Expect long sandbanks, clear, tranquil pools, the exquisite Tootie cascades and lots of peace and quiet with only birdsong and the rivers gentle sounds to keep you company, as well as you're hiking friends of course. I plan to take a flotation device and float along past the scrubby bits and suggest everyone does the same offtrack walking along the Colo river with scrambling at times.

Included is a tunnel section, oodles of long and spectacular pools, cascades and rock formations and a strong possibility you'll have the whole place to yourself. Helmets, wetsuits, surfmats or lilos/donuts are essential and a PFD too if you aren't a good swimmer. Grade:4/6 Length 7km  150m Sydney Branch
Mark G.
Canyon | A trip through a canyon (a gully surrounded by tall cliffs).Swim | A trip that involves swimmingWalk | A bushwalk of any kind short or longHobnail Canyon is situated on Range creek and offers the enthusiastic canyoner a wonderful and spectacular exploration along a beautiful watercourse which doesn't include any abseils although there are a few short tape sections to negotiate into and out of the canyon, especially at the exit track on South Bowen creek. Anyone attending needs to bring a helmet/wetsuit/drybag and PFD if you are not a proficient swimmer but you don't need a surfmat or donut as the swims are very short. This is a canyon well away from the insta crowd and one definitely worth doing. rock scrambling and offtrack

But wait theres more! Bring along you're flotation device such as a surfmat or donut and we will float down the river, shoot the odd cascade before we return and eventually climb back up the way we came. 7 Feb, Sat 8:00AM Rocky creek canyon
Grade:5/6 Length 6km  250m Sydney Branch

Canyon | A trip through a canyon (a gully surrounded by tall cliffs).Walk | A bushwalk of any kind short or long60 Best walks | This is one of the NPA's 60 best walks.Photography | A trip that has a strong focus on encouraging people to capture photographs.Rocky creek canyon is the classic canyon and is regarded as an entry level wet canyon as it does not have any abseils but does have several short swims with the longest being about 30 metres. The scenery in this canyon is unparalleled as its sculptured walls are regarded as the best you'll find anywhere. On this trip I plan to do the full length and climb up the exit track which means we won't have to double back and climb up the cascades. Participants should have the following gear, helmet, wetsuit, drybag, PFD if you are not a proficient swimmer. I have rated this a 5 because there are some tricky scrambles down cascades to negotiate and a rocky climb out at the end. rock scrambling and slippery conditions

Helmet, wetsuit, drybag and a PFD required for those who aren't competent swimmers. rock scrambling and offtrack

3-11 Mar, Tue (16:00PM)-Wed (08:00AM) Kosciuszko Pack Walk
Grade:4/6 Length 50km  1,300m Sydney Branch
Richard T.
Walk | A bushwalk of any kind short or longA repeat for those who missed the walk last year (like me!). The Pretty Plain area is a lovely part of Kosciuszko National Park. Great scenery, lovely bushland, and two of the best of the huts to camp nearby. Even better, we spend multiple days near each hut (two nights at Pretty Plain and three nights at Wheelers). Access is via Dargals Trail to Pretty Plain (a new way thanks the exploration of the last year's group). We return along Pretty Plain, Hell Hole Track and take the shortcut across to Wheelers Hut. Return from Wheelers Hut is again via Dargals Trail. At the start and end of walk we stay at a Ski Lodge at Jindabyne with the usual BBQs on the deck overlooking the lake. A lovely walk with relaxing time near the huts.

Walk | A bushwalk of any kind short or long60 Best walks | This is one of the NPA's 60 best walks.(Fully Booked - Ask leader about waiting list) The Frenchmans Cap track in Tasmania's central plateau is an outstanding walk to one of the states tallest peaks, and allows the adventurous hiker to experience a landscape of outstanding beauty whilst being able to stay in comfortable huts along the way. This will be my 5th visit to the area and I'm as excited to revisit as I was on my first trip there back in the early 1980s, as unlike the Overland Track which is full of people, you'll often have the track to yourself. possible snow and rain with a steep track in parts
