How NPA is organised

The National Parks Association of NSW (NPA) is a member-based conservation organisation and registered charity. Our mission is protecting nature through community action.  We work to protect, conserve and restore the integrity and diversity of nature and provide rewarding and enjoyable opportunities for our members to experience nature via a network of 15 volunteer-led branches across NSW.  

Each branch has a governing committee to organise activities in their area and we coordinate our actions across the state via a State Council of branch representatives responsible for strategy and policy and a volunteer Executive Committee and paid CEO to oversee financial, governance and operational affairs. Our Branches, State Council and Executive Committee are supported by a small group of paid staff led by our CEO who also sits on the Executive and State Council. Our staff provide membership, finance, communication, conservation, field activity and fundraising support. Committees of members and staff are formed from time to time to assist and coordinate work across the state.  

The following committees report to the State Council:

• The Field Activities Committee (coordinates and provides advice on bushwalking and other field activities),
• The Landscape Conservation Forum (advocates for additions to the reserve network and broader conservation issues across NSW),
• The Park Management Committee (campaigns for the ongoing protection and best practice management of the reserve system), and
• The Recruitment and Awards Committee (recruits members to stand for positions and committees and provides awards for significant NPA volunteer efforts). 

The following committees report to the Executive Committee:

• Membership (provides advice on membership matters),
• Fundraising (carries out certain fundraising activities), and
• Finance (reviews and advises on financial matters).
