Turn north, then east and make our way to the cliff edge at about GR 397 160. From here, commence exploration of this dissected terrain going south. There is much to see and do before we reach the point GR 410 144 above the Flying Carpet. This is likely to be two walks. About 8 km. Exploratory. Scrambling and exposure.

Glenbrook Tunnel, Lennox Bridge The Gatekeepers Cottage, John Whitton Memorial and The Great River Walk are the highlights of the walk. The disused Glenbrook Tunnel is steeped in history. It was used as a secret site for mustard gas storage in World War II and in recent years housed a mushroom farm that one local MP called a "doss house". The Lennox Bridge is a heritage-listed road bridge at Mitchells Pass. It is the oldest stone arch bridge on the Australian mainland. Check this out. Steep and slippery sections. No-touch sign-on. Exit here and follow trail back to Station St and on to Glenbrook. Cross Glenbrook Creek a couple of times. Steep but interesting climb up from Sand Hole. Walking beside Glenbrook Creek is rough going at times.

|(Fully Booked - Ask leader about waiting list) Ahearn's lookout is found by following the beginning of Starlight's Track. Take a left fork leading to Rocky Waterholes Lookout and just past this junction look for a right turn which meanders along the ridge to Ahearn's lookout. This gives views over the Nattai with Mt Jellore easily identified. Return by the same route.
Hazards: Rough track, fallen trees and unfenced cliffs.

Many steps and some rocky sections on tracks which have been somewhat eroded with recent rain.

Scrambling and exposure.

This is a great walk and not that difficult although it does entail some scrambling, mainly off-track walking, but certainly worth it. Rock scrambling.
